What do you do when you are scammed by a seller and Ebay does nothing?
I bought a guitar device from a seller about 2 months ago. I was super busy the first couple weeks so I didn’t get a chance to try it. Then I tried it and I couldn’t get it to work. After a few times, I decided to write to the seller and see if they had anything that could help me figure the issue out. They never responded. I wrote a few days later. No response. I wrote a 3rd time. No response. Eventually, I decided to return it. It had been about 30 days by then. Ebay has me fill out the return info and then I sit and wait. Days go by and still no response at all. I could not find any other action to take and then my return expired. So now, apparently I have no recourse on an item that cost me over $100 and I can’t even leave a bad review, from what I can see.
Any ideas, please? I am thinking of buying a super cheap item from them again and then leaving a bad review with all the details, but I don’t know… Thanks

·9 months agoThe subject title is very misleading...eBay stands behind the buyers with a 30 day money back guarantee. If buyers fail to understand it and ignore it, how is that on eBay?
Your bank has their version of backing you as a consumer as well, file a charge back within their terms to get your money returned. But I'm sure if you wait too long, then they too will be of no help, and in no way, shape or form is that now your CC/bank doing nothing.
Ebay is set up to be automated...for good or bad...if we think it works best by talking it out among buyers and sellers, I think we will more often than not be disappointed. Early on in ebay's life, this wasn't the case, but in 2026 it sure is.

·9 months agoeBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers offers very good resolution when a problem arises. The catch is that the buyer needs to read it, understand it and use it in a timely fashion.
Let's hope you have no further problems as a buyer; however, just in case, how about reading the MBG carefully to see how it applies to various situations a buyer might encounter.
It does no harm to be prepared.
And, BTW, it's always a good idea to take the time to try an item out soon after you receive it. Easier and left frustrating if it needs to be returned.

·9 months agoYeah, read the MBG and understand how it works.
Violating ebay policy like that can get your ability to leave feedback taken away, opt you out of the MBG altogether or worse...the NARU

·9 months agoSince you are way past the 30 day MBG, if you paid by cc, try them for a chargeback. Not sure what you mean by 'ebay had me fill out the return info', did you file an actual item not as described case? Its all automated, and is usually a slam dunk refund to the buyer.
I wouldnt advise buying an item then negging the seller for it. he did nothing wrong, you were past the thirty day time limit.

OP9 months agoI've been doing business at Ebay for probably 15 years. I buy multiple items every week. I have never had a seller completely ignore me. Then they get a return request and they still ignore me... I didn't see anything in the message I got from ebay saying I had to ask them to step in a second time if they didn't respond. I kept looking for something in regards to that and I didn't see it in the case info when I opened it.
BTW, I have been a seller here as well and I would have never ingored my customer for more than month on many contact requests.

OP9 months agoAnyway, thanks for the response. You did more than the seller ever did. All he did was send me a defective item and ignore me. I may try the chargeback.
