The seller
Summary: lu_542619 is experiencing issues with a seller on eBay who has not provided a return label for a defective electric scooter. The seller offered a partial refund for the shipping fee instead of a full refund, which lu_542619 refused. lu_542619 is considering involving eBay or disputing the payment through their bank. The discussion includes advice from others suggesting to open a formal return case with eBay and to avoid further communication with the seller. They emphasize following eBay's procedures to eventually request eBay's intervention if the seller remains unresponsive. Some participants suggest avoiding similar sellers in the future.
Seller isn't sending me a return label, so I'm thinking of getting eBay involved. I bought an electric scooter, and now the battery's dead after just a week.
I might even dispute the payment through my bank at this rate.
When I reached out to him, I said I wanted to return it, and he goes, "Why?" I explained, and he replies, "Let's make this easy for both of us. You keep $30 for the shipping fee, and you can give the scooter to someone else, but you're not getting your money back!" I was like, "No way, just send the shipping label," but he's not answering.
He even fibbed to eBay, claiming he sent the label, but there's nothing from him.

·1 week agoDo you know if the seller was even approved to sell this device with a battery? Usually they are not allowed to be sold without authorization, safety and documentation rules being followed.
So technically if not approved you shouldn't be selling or buying these items with lithium ion batteries.

·1 week agoYou want to file an eBay case first. In the event that were to fail, you then have to option of filing with the payment service. If you did that first, you lose the eBay option. Better to always have a backup.

Depending upon the delivery date, you have up to 30 days from that date to open a return request. If you have never opened one before, first is stop messaging the seller. It means absolutely nothing in the process. It can work for & against you as messages are ebay owned. They are factual arbiters.
Go to your purchases. next to the purchase, right side are options: View Order Details, More Actions, Return this item. Pick your reason, provide details & add pictures of the item to support the reason. Once you begin this process, ebay is in the background. when you are prompted to review communications in the request, do so & reply. Never assume they have the info. Failure to reply works against you. This is also where the seller has to officially participate in the process, not via messages but the actual process, or due to inaction, at a date, set based upon opening the request, ebay can be asked to step in for decision. In most cases, depending on the listing category of the item, a return is approved & it becomes a Return Case. Sometimes the seller refuses to want ti item returned & just refunds in full by intent forcing you to dispose of the item.
Once it is a return case, return shipping is forced - domestic by a system label or one provided by the seller & uploaded. If international, process changes. Should the return label not be provided, if ebay is requested to step in again after a certain date, set via the process, they can side on a buyers side, issue a refund & skip the return fully. Forcing ebay to step in has consequence as well to the seller if they fail to respond as it counts in their metrics that can lead as defects towards being banned from the platform.
If you are beyond the 30 days - they you have to go through your payment provider. Their time frames vary. If they side against you, do the same. If you have started with ebay, until that process plays ut, keep with it. If you go directly to the payment provider, ebay stops responding because you have gone straight around them, straight to the provider & are now forcing ebay, not the seller, to respond to a similar process.
Open the case ASAP if you are inside the time frame. Never close it no matter what the seller promises. You get one bite of the apple & can't undo a closure.

OP1 week agoHe has a warehouse in Ohio so I'm thinking about sending it back using my own pocket money which is about $30 even though he has not sent me a return label nothing however I did go to eBay and it says your returns already to go and obviously like I said he lied to eBay and said I did send them to return label just trying to send me a battery for $60
If the electric scooter only works for one week and I did not expose it to any water no water
But no offense to you guys I'm never going to buy from eBay ever again
But I doubt Alibaba is any better but Amazon said they will not send to my address.

·1 week ago · EditedExactly @lu_542619 which is why all you have to do now, is find eBay on Instagram:
And ask eBay to escalate your case to have the seller issue a prepaid eBay return label (which the seller can't, but you should say very little).
Be sure to stick around to verify your eBay account, before you leave to await while eBay reviews your case.

Your credit card issuer should be willing to deal with your problem if you open a dispute with them.

OP1 week agoYeah I looked that up on Google. And it said that if you want to file get a return for something on eBay and get your money back you should not file dispute and try to get your money back because it says according to Google that they both will get in the way of each other.
I'm thinking about sending it back by mail using my own pocket money but Google says "don't do that either " because if the seller is dishonest now imagine how you dishonest he's going to be once you send it back." You might pay additional $30 out of pocket and you might not even get any refund at all. "!

·2 weeks ago@lu_542619 Did you actually open a return or did you only message the seller? You need to open a return. Go to your orders, find the one for the scooter, and open the return. Select the reason that the item is defective, and state in the box the battery won't hold a charge.

OP1 week agoI will never use eBay ever again! I did all that and it's been you know day 4 and I still don't see a return label but I got a new message from him now he wants to sell me a battery for $60 he says hello friend I'm not his friend. No I want my money back and I'm never going to use eBay again I'm going to try to file dispute on my bank but it says according to google like I just said that you shouldn't be doing both either you file dispute or you try to get a refund through eBay but if you do both at the same time so and so but it also says that maybe I could send it back using my own pocket money even though he didn't send the shipping label and just hold on to the tracking number and then show that to my bank. But again like I said this guy is a crook and he's probably going to say to to eBay he didn't send me the whole thing or it came in pieces or who knows what the hell he's going to say. The first scooter I bought on eBay was good in the seller was honest you know he didn't do anything wrong this is the second time I bought a scooter and it broke down for no logical reason I didn't expose it to rain I didn't expose it to anything I treated it like a princess. And all it took is one week for it to break down
And no there's nothing there there's no way to defile dispute there's no way to ask eBay to step in I don't see anything there. I called eBay on the phone and there's no customer service you know you can't get a live human on the phone you got an artificial intelligence. I use Green Dot thing to make the purchase but the thing about it is most companies won't take Green Dot bank so from now on I'm going to try to get another bank and I'm going to try to not use eBay it's going to electric scooter because Amazon won't even send me an electric scooter. But there's nothing there! I don't know how to ask eBay" to step in "because apparently there are no "humans "that actually work evay!

·1 week ago · Edited@lu_542619 There is no number to call eBay on, at least not widely published and any number you call could very well be a scam. Every eBay page has a ? in the lower right corner. You can click that and when the box pops up, go to the help page.
That said, I don't think you need to speak with eBay. You opened the return. The seller now has 3 business days from the day you opened the return to send you a shipping label or arrange some way with you to send it back to them. That could involve sending funds to Paypal for you to buy a shipping label if they are in China.
Is this scooter small enough that it can go through a regular carrier? I mean it does not need freight shipment, does it? Either way, if the seller does not send you a return label then the button to ask eBay to step in will appear on the 4th business day. This could be as late as next Thursday if you only opened the return today (Saturday).
If you go to your payment source and file for a chargeback (I'm not sure what protection there is on a Green Dot Visa/MC), then eBay will completely be out of the picture. There is no need to do that.
I realize you are upset, but your anger is going to cause you to make a mistake that could prevent you from getting your money back. Relax. You have to go through these motions, but it will work out as long as you follow eBay's procedures. Stop communicationg with the seller through messages. They are as scumbag and they are trying to get you to delay things or handle things in messages. Only communicate through the return case you opened. There is really no communication needed. If they don't send the label to you within 3 business days, the button to ask eBay to step in will appear. That's a bad thing for the seller, and a good thing for you. If eBay has to step in, the seller gets a strike on their account, they lose their selling fees, you get fully refunded from the seller's money, and you get to keep the item.
Do not send it back paying out of pocket. You won't ever see your money if you do that and eBay won't be able to help you. Stick with the Item Not Received case.

·2 weeks agoIs it the seller from China that you gave negative feedback to?
They won't provide a return shipping label, they'll have to send you the money to your Pay Pal account to cover the return shipping.
Have you started a return through Ebay or just talking to the seller?
If you started a return, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in.

·1 week agoOK, so, exactly what have you done so far? Have you opened an item not as described case? You need to stop communicating with the seller. He can drag this out for too long and it's getting you nowhere anyway. Calm down. Read the Money Back Guarantee for buyers.
