So eBay isn't getting rid of their facebook chat, one of their employees was being vindictive.
I sought help with a return fraud cause on eBay's Facebook page and one of their employees took it upon themselves to outright lie about it.
These messages were all sent by the same rep, my name and theirs masked for privacy.
Long story short, I had a buyer straight up scam me and return a different item altogether.
Initially this rep stated since it was fraud, they have to "deny the appeal", then stated the "security team" didn't take any action as "I've had multiple courtesies in the past".
The refund courtesies were for incorrectly charged fees and had nothing to do with a return. When I asked for proof, they stated they was "internal information unavailable to me". Funny, it's my account, my sales, my money, how is this classified to ME?
Laughable, they mentioned using the "partial refund tool" for a FRAUDULENT RETURN. Ya, let's give the scammer my money.
After calling them out, I get the final message that private messages will close on 1/14.
It appears that this rep sent this message themselves, and have now internally blocked me from messaging eBay.
The case, after calling customer service, had not in fact been closed yet. So I submitted an appeal, and won!
So not only did this rep lie to me several times, stating the case was already closed, no further appeals would be reviewed, and chat on Facebook would be disabled after 1/14, I can't even contact eBay anymore on Facebook.
I've filed a formal grievance with eBay and the state's AG. This person should NOT be employed!

I believe that only applies to the UK eBay Facebook page (and the UK X page). I believe the UK Instagram page will still work.
The non-UK social media accounts will all still work.

·9 months agoI don't understand why your situation would get better help than the rest of us. I would say most of us have had a bad/fraudulent return, but not received any investigation or action on our behalf. I never knew ebay did that, but they do offer limited protections if you qualify. I set up my listings to qualify for those protections if I need them. I don't call phone reps for help in these situations. I figured it was all done without human interactions being involved.

Unfortunately, return fraud is not just happening on eBay. I recently saw something on CNN according to the American Retailers association online return fraud was a 3.50 billion dollar problem and it is getting worse in 2024. Unfortunately, there is not a lot that can be done because it would cost more money than the fraud in most cases.
Lucky for me it doesn't happen that often. Just a few times a year and I just chalk it up as a cost of doing business. I write it off on my taxes and move on. My time is too valuable to deal with deadbeats.

·9 months agoFrom the appearance of that message, I don't think you were corresponding with an eBay employee.
Can you tell us more about the case you opened and exactly how you went about it?

OP9 months agoI mean it's possible if they work from home their spouse or kid was sending that message.
It was on their official Facebook page.
Case was opened because the buyer opened a return and did not reply to any messages I sent. Once I tried calling them and they blocked the number. They waited 2 weeks to send it back.
I knew darn well they were up to no good.
I got the box and it was an old cheap android tablet inside a much larger box.
I called to file an appeal and had to send a "sworn affidavit" to customer support.
