Sellers are dragging time so you can't get a refund.
I have been on eBay for the past 17 years. I have seen changes through out time. But eBay has become very unsafe since they started taking payments instead of using PayPal for transactions.
When it comes about eBay handling problems it always has been a big problem for the past 17 years they can't do nothing to guarantee safety.
I recently bought an item that on the listing it said it will work with the vehicle in mind. I got the item and it didn't fit. I contacted the seller letting him know the problem. His response was ask eBay for a refund.
So I went ahead and looked for the button request a refund, well it was nowhere to be found but a button to return item. I clicked it and it went through a process to return item but no button just to request a refund like it used to back in the day. So I told the seller about this and he never responded back. Days passed no message there came a deadline where they close the case for no refund, I sent an appeal and it was rejected the next day.
So I contacted the seller and told him I haven't gotten any refund, he stated that I haven't requested anything I explained to him there's no button for request refund I even sent him a screenshot.
He said eBay deals with refund. At this point far has been dragging for 3 months believe it or not and no refund from seller. I contacted eBay via phone and told me not to worry about it it will get fixed. They are looking through it. Here we got another 30 more days and nothing. I called eBay and guess what now?? It has been 90 days and no one can do anything.
The crazy part another seller is trying the same thing. This one the item got lost during FedEx shipping. Contacted the seller and I was trying once again to look for refund because I need to buy the parts again right away for a car repair but eBay only has return no refund request.
I told the seller everything that has happened and he went ahead and uploaded a new shipping label to send me a replacement. He said I will send me a replacement and that he already got the refund for the part from FedEx.
So waited and waited and waited and no item for a month. We are now on month 2 and half and no refund or parts. Contacted eBay and said I have to return the item for a refund. I was like what item? There's no item. Lol So for me to get a refund I have to send an empty box with the label attached to it. Lol eBay is so pathetic.
Conclusion:
eBay is not safe anymore and if you are going truth this as I am respond to this post and maybe we could do something.
Recommendation:
Use PayPal as payment method, This will give you a second back up to get a refund.

It's up to the seller if they want to refund without returning the item.

·1 year agoMany long term sellers have never known how to handle a return on Ebay, and know less now that the formal Ebay Money Back Guarantee formalizes and automates the process.
Scamming sellers have mastered persuading these ignorant buyers to forfeit their protections. There is one born every minute.
PayPal has never offered the protection that a buyer has with the combination of an Ebay MBG and the credit card dispute process. And PayPal is thrilled to defer to Ebay on MBG claims.
Do not let the seller deter you from using the MBG process promptly. And reread @house*of*paws post

·1 year agoEven though you've been here 17 years, you might want to take the time to refresh yourself on what to do if/when a transaction goes wrong. All you need to do is find the item in your purchase history and click on "want to return" using not as described as your reason.

·1 year agoHi @computersales2009
While I do use PayPal … it no longer offers the backup protection for returns that it once did. That’s because the deadline for filing a claim (on returns) went from 180 days to 30. [It’s still 180 days for ‘Item not received’ claims.]
So be sure to always use a CREDIT CARD with PayPal if you want protection for a return that’s gone on longer than 30 days after you received the item. [And you will need to contact your CC company … and NOT PayPal … when you use that protection.]

^^^ This is how I pay. That way, I've got eBay's MBG, plus PayPal and my payment provider as backups. 🙌

·1 year agoI am not going to go into depth to state the obvious, but ...
on the 1st item, did you expect a refund without a return? that is pretty standard anywhere...
on the 2nd item, there should have been an Item Not Received option (in all likelihood) available to you to initiate a refund.
and, to the 3rd point...they have always had paypal as an option for payment...even today....
