Seller knowingly sent wrong item is now asking for my email as he can’t send a returns label.
I purchased a $350 item from a seller in the USA. (Gold watch spring bars) They seem to have great reviews. The goods arrived last week. I sent them to my trusted watch maker and they have advised the spring bars do not fit my watch. I asked the seller before buying them that they fitted my model including the reference number and they confirmed yes.
i contacted the seller and they instantly returned an answer saying i should cut my strap for them to fit. Or. Take them to a jeweller who can modify them to make them fit. This is a $50k watch. I explained I’m not prepared to damage the strap and these should just fit if they are the correct ones as they had sold to me.
They went on to basically say they will make an exception and accept a return but i will need to pay the postage back to the USA.
Again i said no. I’ve done nothing wrong and they have supplied a product that isn’t compatible as they promised.
i contacted eBay and requested a refund. The seller then messaged me to say that i was being unreasonable. He said to return the item he couldn’t send a returns label through ebay and he wanted my email address to supply the label. I said no. Please use the eBay system.
I’ve reported this seller to ebay. But they can’t do anything until the time expires for the seller to issue the returns label.
Is this a scam?

·7 months agoWhere is your seller located? If he's not in the US, he can't send you that prepaid return label, but has to find out what the return shipping will cost and actually front you that money.

Looks like an OK seller.
The return label is the problem...
Giving out an email address where seller gives the buyer money in Pay Pal(I assume) to buy postage to return the item back seems OK.
'a $50k watch'...I don't know why you didn't go to a watch store for the item(s).
I have a Rolex and have to go to the store for tune-ups on my watch I think after so many years(just like a car).

·7 months agoDid you open an item not as described case? Did you return to the case at 4 days and request eBay to step in so you could be refunded?
There is no requirement that you contact the seller first. Just open the case.
Are you familiar with eBay's Money Back Guarantee?

·7 months ago@albertabrightalberta doesn't the seller have to have a way to send the OP the money for a return label since they are in the UK?

·7 months agoSeller ask OP for their email so they could send a shipping label, but they don't want to give it.

OP7 months agoAll advice from EBay is to not trade outside of the platform. Hence why I’m reluctant to give my email address as if anything goes wrong Ebay can refuse the claim for return.
The question I’m asking here. Is it normal practice for a company selling to a different country to request an email address in order to send goods back for a refund because the Ebay system doesn’t generate the returns label?
i agree. The seller seems to have great reviews. Hence why i purchased from them.

·7 months ago@thefussyfox The seller should be able to send a label via eBay Messages if that’s the route they want to take. They just need to send it as an image format like JPG or PNG, not a PDF.

Yes this was my thoughts also.
The seller did say they didn’t want me to open a return via Ebay as it affects their score. But i was concerned about the information this seller was telling me about cutting my strap or asking a jeweller to shave some material off the bars to get them to fit.
It just doesn’t sound right to me. Hence why i opened a return via eBay.

·7 months agoWhen did you open the not as described case with eBay? Are you aware that, after the case has been open for 3 days, if you've heard nothing from the seller, you need to return to the case and request that eBay step in so you can be refunded. Have you read the MBG?

If you've already opened a NAD (not as described) return request, what does it show as the date by which the seller has to respond?
If that date has passed and you haven't received a return shipping label through the order/claim, go back to the case and click the dropdown. Ask ebay to step in.
Do not send the seller your email or any other personal information outside of the claim.
