Seller from Europe wants me to pay return shipping for Damaged Item to their US address…
I received a damaged item from a seller who shipped this item from Europe.
According to eBay, since it was damaged, seller is responsible for providing me with a return label, however seller is telling me that they’re unable to provide me with a return label, and rather than ship it back to Europe since it’s very expensive, they instead ask me to ship the return to their US address out of my own pocket - however they will credit me an extra $5 + the refund if I do this. According to seller they have difficulties sending me a return label with their US address since they’re from Europe.
Questions:
1. Can seller actually credit me more than the refund amount? (refund + extra $5) Would the seller need to credit me $5 first before I ship it?
2. Couldn’t seller just edit their return label on eBay using their US address and send that to me?
3. What’s the best option for me to do?
Thank you.

·2 years agoBe aware as well - never ship an item until they pay the money. They use this as an abusive way to avoid paying you for the return as well. They all promise to refund you once you send then a copy of the receipt - then claim its too high & never pay up. No way to address that with ebay either.

·2 years ago1. Yes, but not through ebay. Yes and no.
2. Yes, assuming they can purchase a label.
3. Escalate the case when you get the opportunity

·2 years agoIf the seller approved the return the 'ask ebay to step in' will not appear. If they are unwilling to provide you the money for shipping, you will need to contact ebay through the help and support link or through their customer service on ebay on Facebook or Twitter.

·2 years agoWhy do they want a damaged item back? Send a photo of the damaged item to the seller.
Seems like a lot of steps to get a refund. Apparently, the item wasn't packaged good.
It's not like the seller can collect insurance on a damaged item.
And maybe they should have mailed the item to you from the USA in the first place.

·2 years agoNo, not possible. No, not a partial refund from your payment; the seller has to send cash via e.g. PayPal.
Is this where you're stuck now? If so you can't ask eBay to step in @foreverletsgo in 4 days, or 14 days, or ever.

OP2 years agoYes, according to eBay seller has until tomorrow to send me a return label before I can ask eBay to step in. Sounds like seller won’t send me one though and asking me to purchase the return label myself. I guess I’m ok to do that t but I just want to be sure that I do get that extra refund seller is promising me before I ship the item out of my pocket.
thanks

·2 years agoThe seller right, they can't provide a return shipping label.
They have to send you the money to pay the return shipping and it's usually done through Pay Pal.
Find out what it's going to cost to return it with tracking, message the seller through the case and let them know and provide your Pay Pal email.
If the don't pay, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in.
