Seller Advising me to "close the case" before they submit refund
Is this the legitimate process? I would think I'd want to close the case (or "request", as eBay calls it), AFTER I receive my refund from this particularly awful seller...?

·3 years agoDo NOT accept a replacement. Go back to the case if you opened it 3 days ago. Escalate it Your scam seller is a liar and a cheat and he thinks that you are stupid and will agree to a replacement that of course, is never going to arrive or will be more junk.

OP3 years agoHi Ms.Rodriguez. We finally resolved the issue. Feel free to read my previous comment…
the good news is I received a very good deal on a new air conditioner during the worst heat wave of the summer, after dealing with a rather unorganized seller whose native language was clearly not English!

·3 years agoDid they give you tracking for the new item to verify a replacement on the way? Unless a seller screwed up mixing up orders, a seller MUST use the address you provided to ship too (or they lose all protection). So we maybe missing a lot of info here...
If it went to an old address of yours or you had wrong address on file, that would be your fault. If it was going to your real address and got lost, that's the carriers fault and verifiable with tracking. If they resent an item (in general wo knowing the prior info) tracking would verify that, was that something you previously agreed to? As a seller I wouldn't want the original item lost for good, to ship a replacement and to issue a refund while the replacement was on the way.
For the record there maybe select instances where a buyer request to close a case, I had to do it twice in the last month bc buyers bought a quantity, had a single faulty item and opened a return for all of the items. The first buyer trusted me and closed it so I refunded wo requiring shipping back (I had no option in case to offer a partial refund presumably bc I'd sent a label). The 2nd buyer didn't trust me and insteal magically 1 faulty item became 6 and he returned them all.

OP3 years agoYes, the seller screwed up, mixing up orders.
I finally received my order a couple of days ago.
I think part of the issue was a major communication barrier due to their poor command of the English language coupled with the sporadic nature of their overall responsiveness.
I get the feeling that a lot of sellers live overseas, speak little to no English, and somehow contract with warehouses in the United States (cheap labor) and make a tiny commission for managing sales of their inventory.

·3 years agoTell the **bleep** seller that if he refunds you , the case is automatically closed. DO NOT close the case. Do NOT accept another item from this scammer. If you opened a case, make sure that you return to the case by the date posted. Set your alarm so that you do not miss it. Then when it's time, escalate the case. Your refund will be granted and the seller gets another ding on this acct. With enough dings, he is off ebay. Do NOT concern yourself if something happens to you. You were not his first victim.

·3 years agoThat’s not how refunds work. AFTER the seller refunds you the case will close on its own.
Good that you came here to ask questions because your seller is trying to pull a fast one. Because if you were to close the case before receiving your refund, your chances of getting it after you close will be nil.

·3 years agoJust think of it like this.
By closing the case you are telling eBay you don't want your money back.
And you can't reopen it, nor can you open a new one.

OP3 years agoThat is exactly what I thought...so this seller basically ordering me to close the case has apparently reached a new level of deplorable behavior.

·3 years agoYes the seller has stooped to a deplorable level.

·3 years agoYes, you have relatively low feedback, having bought only a handful of items this past year, this rotten scoundrel of a seller is hoping you are naive & will follow their lead.
If you were to close the case, as explained by other posters, you will lose all chance of your refund, eBay will not support you, & you will not be able to leave feedback for this charmer of a seller.
It is rare for me to advise this, but I think it vital that you leave negative feedback explaining you are doing so not for the fact that the seller shipped to wrong address, (you must mention that in the feedback) but that they then asked you to close the case prior to receiving your refund.
You are also able to report the seller, I would do so immediately, heaven only knows what other buyers he has done this to, and will no doubt try to do so in the future...
Out of curiosity, have you Google mapped the address? There was an eBay seller many years back who was shipping items to a courier service, who then had the items returned to him, he drew out cases until they timed out & left the buyer high and dry, & something similar happened to me last year regards a seller in Hong Kong, where, not only did the item show as delivered to an address that had nothing to do with me, she dragged it out until I lost the claim
Good luck...

OP3 years agoThe FedEx tracking info only indicates "KEY WEST, FL 33040"... I agree that Google Mapping the exact delivery address would've been helpful.
Check out this scammer's messages to me:
Dear customer, I have sent you a new item, it is expected to be deli next weekend. Can you help me close the case?
close the case, i will refund you
I wanted to let you know that your order is scheduled to arrive on July 27th. Can you wait until that date?
Please wait a few more days
I'm deeply sorry, but the package is on its way. I swear on my life that I didn't intend to deceive you. I'm trying my best to send the items to you because one package got lost in Florida. The other package is scheduled to arrive at your place on the 27th. I believe you're a good person, and once you receive the package, please let me know. If the items still haven't arrived by the 27th, can I refund you?

OP3 years agoI don't see a button or link which would enable me to report this seller.
Can you advise me on that, aristocratsandgypsies?

·3 years agoYou do not want to close the case unless/until the issue has been resolved and has been resolved in your favor. I cannot emphasize this enough.
You've given no details of the case here, so kinda flying blind.
Did you open an INR case with eBay within 30 days of the last estimated delivery date?
Did you return to that case after 3 days had passed and request that eBay step in?
If you're engaging in correspondence with the seller, you need to stop. It's neither necessary nor fruitful in most situations and he could be just stalling you until the 30 day deadline has passed.

OP3 years agoThe seller FedExed my order to an address 1,400 Miles Away.
After a week of terribly lacking communication from the seller, I opened a case with eBay to ensure a refund.
So yes, I opened an INR case with eBay almost immediately upon discovering that the seller shipped my order to the wrong address....
and yes, I returned to the case after 3 days had passed and request that eBay step in.
Just to re-clarify, the seller instructed me to "close the case" so that they could process the refund.
Based upon your reply, I will wait for the refund before I close the case and stop messaging with the seller.
Thank you, soh.maryl.

·3 years agoBesides a scammer, your seller is a liar.
All he has to do is CLICK Refund in the case and before his finger is off this button, the $$ is on it's way to you.
He can also refund by go to MY Sales, finding the item and then there is a button with actions and he clicks REFUND and fills in the amount and hits send refund and you have your $.
