Seller Accusing Me of Fraudulent Return
I recently purchased a used video game that turned out to be defective, despite the listing stating it was "tested". I started a return through eBay, and the seller quickly messaged me accusing me of fraud and that the disc in my picture was not the disc they sent. I replied with additional pictures and compared them to the pictures in their listing, pointing out the flaws and proving they match; then the seller went silent.
I continued with the return, and then they opened a case against me, this time stating both the disc AND the case they received were different from what they sent. I attempted to contact eBay and managed to submit an appeal on the case - I checked the box to receive a copy to my email, and somehow that hasn't come in. This morning I received an email from eBay stating my account isn't following the "Abusive buyer policy" and that there is a "Pattern of returning items that are different from the original item sent to you." Keep in mind this is the FIRST time I've ever made a return through eBay, so how can there be a "pattern"?
This is unfair, and this seller should be held accountable. Is there anything else I can do to defend myself and the integrity of my account, and ensure I'm refunded? I attempted to call two of eBay's phone numbers and they claim it's outside of business hours, at 9:30 AM EST.

·5 months agoIf you found a phone number for ebay it is probably a scammer anyway. Contact them through ebay on instagram. If you really haven't sent returns prior to this then you are not abusing, but if you have, or if others at your IP address have been then you may be in danger of losing the ability to buy here.

OP5 months agoI went to eBay's Help & Contact page, scrolled down to Contact Us, opened the chat window, and asked for them to call me. They called me a few minutes after and I explained my side of the story. They reviewed the case, closed it in my favor, and are issuing me a refund.

OP5 months agoThere are at least 2 phone numbers I've found to reach eBay. Both are automated and they found my return details. However, when asking to speak with an agent, the automated voice simply states that it's outside of business hours and ends the call.

You were not speaking to Ebay, Ebay hasnt had a number to call since covid. You were speaking to a scammer who has fake Ebay numbers listed on the net. Glad you didnt give them any financial information, and happy your problem got solved with the real Ebay.

OP5 months agoInteresting. I'm surprised the fake numbers were able to find my return since the automated message just asked for my zip code - I assume it used my phone number as well. Thank you for clarifying.

·5 months agoeBay did away with the option to call them during Covid. You were talking to a scammer.
