Seeking Advice on Water-Damaged Laptop Purchased via eBay
Summary: johlama61 experienced issues with a laptop purchased on eBay that wouldn't power on due to water damage, not disclosed by the seller. After filing a repair claim with Allstate, they found the damage, but eBay's refund system has been difficult to navigate. johnschuricht advised checking the purchase date because of eBay's 30-day money-back guarantee, recommending opening a 'not as described' return claim. tobaccocardyahoo pointed out that sending the item to Allstate was a mistake and emphasized the importance of acting swiftly after receipt, suggesting a credit card dispute if eBay's guarantee period has expired.
I recently purchased a laptop through eBay, and upon arrival, it wouldn't power on. After sending it to Allstate for a repair claim, they reported that the damage was actually caused by water exposure. The seller didn't disclose this issue at the time of purchase, and now I'm struggling to get a refund through eBay's system. Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation? How did you manage to resolve it? Any insights or advice on navigating eBay's refund policies in such scenarios would be greatly appreciated!

·1 month agoAs @johnschuricht states the timeframe matters.
A DOA item should not have been sent to Allstate. A return request should have been opened on receipt.
Receipt of the item starts the clock on claims under the Ebay MBG. It is likely that your current problems are an expired Ebay MBG. If that is the case, your only remaining recourse might be a payment dispute with your credit card issuer.

·1 month ago · EditedThe most important thing here is the time frame. When you purchased the item, what was the delivery date?
Ebay has a 30 day money back guarantee. If an item arrives not working and it was advertised as working, ie. new or used not for parts then your first step should be to open a not as described return on ebay. The seller will be forced to either pay for the return shipping then refund once it's received or refund without requiring the item being returned.
