RETURNS - Buyer shipped item back AFTER 21-day return window closed by eBay
I've been on eBay for almost 25 years with 100% feedback. I have "no returns" accepted on all my listings, but I know buyers can lie to return anything.
So a buyer contacted me within less than 24 hours of receiving a $350 Creed fragrance she purchased, claiming it's "defective" and "fake" and "not like the one she purchased directly from the Creed boutique previously."
I know the buyer is lying because the fragrance literally just came out in Paris in 2024 at wasn't available in USA until a couple months ago.
eBay told me to accept her return request and also purchase an eBay return label.
Buyer had 21 days to return the item with my FREE label but she did NOT return it. Buyer has never once directly contacted me.
eBay closed the buyers return request after 21 very long days on September 30th. The very next day, 24 hours later, on October 1st the buyer went to UPS store and paid her own money to ship item back to me (after the return request was already closed by eBay since buyer did nothing for 21 days).
What should I do? Her return is expected at my address this afternoon from UPS.
I already have my money back as eBay released my funds after 21 day hold. I'm sure buyer will contact eBay customer service asking to reopen this return request.
The Buyer gave false reasons for returning item, and now ships it back after 21 days days when she could have simply used my FREE label. Why would she wait so long to return such an expensive "fake" item?
You think that would be a priority and something to take care of immediately.
I'm not sure if i should refuse delivery, as I think UPS will just drop it off without signature.
There is still an option to "send refund" but would I still get my $46 Final Value fees back from ebay? I can't sell this as new anymore as she used the fragrance. Who knows what condition she will send it back in?
Is she would have mailed it back within the 21 days, then i would agree it's fair to refund, but she returned it AFTER ebay closed the case and released my funds after 21 days hold.
Oh, and the Buyer has ZERO feedback and created a new eBay account just to purchase this $350 fragrance from me.
Her mailing address is a hotel in Alexandria, Virginia and she has a very foreign name. Just so many red flags.
I think I'm covered if the Buyer files a charge back, as she already opened a return request on ebay. I should be covered with eBay seller protection since I already accepted her return request and it was eBay that closed it out after 21 days.
All this anxiety is not worth the hassle.

When received just refund her the money. I agree with the above comment buyer can still attempt to do a chargeback. Not sure it will be successful or not but its a risk.
"Why would she wait so long to return such an expensive "fake" item?"
Buyers situations vary. Nobody can tell you why buyer wait long to return.

As far as Ebay goes yes you are covered cause the case is closed. Unfortunately you still have to deal with a chargeback which isn't guaranteed. If you get the item back it's up to you if you want to refund the money. I would refund the money and block the buyer upon return. This is a new buyer and some buyers don't know all the rules. Just make sure you inspect the item. If anything is wrong then deducted. The buyer is actually doing this at there own risk cause you as a seller are actually not obligated to do anything via Ebay due to the closed case.
would I still get my $46 Final Value fees back from ebay?
Yes! Once you issue a refund then the fees are returned to you as well. When issuing that refund they spell out everything at that time.

·11 months agoWell the buyer can not reopen a snad case, but she can go to her cc for a chargeback.I would consider just refunding her thru PP if you get your item back ok.
