Return/refund assistance from eBay
Hello All,
Not sure if this is the correct place for this or not, but giving it a shot.
I placed an order for a product at the end of April this year. After I placed the order, but too late to cancel it, I noticed a piece was missing in the photos, etc. There should have been 9 pieces for a complete kit, but there were only 8. I had contacted the seller and asked if the 9th piece was included, but just not shown. The seller replied that it was not included and the photos clearly showed what was included. Far enough, it was 100% on me and was my oversight when I initially ordered it. No big deal. I informed the seller that since the kit was incomplete, I would be returning it as soon as I received it. I would not even open it, just turn right around and return it.
The seller said not to do that and offered to make the missing piece for me for free if I would pay shipping. Long story short, I agreed. Now it has been almost 5 months and still no 9th piece only excuses. I have asked the seller to do the right thing and allow me to return the kit for a refund because the deal was that I would not return the pieces within the return window (14 days) because they were going to make the last piece for me. The seller has stopped responding, eBay chat bot is not letting me talk with an agent because it has been over 90 days since the purchase. I can't seem to find an email or phone number to get around the bot.
If it was less money I would just right this off as live and learn, but it was a nice chunk of change. I never would have kept the initial kit and would have returned it and gotten the bulk of my money back had the seller not offered the 9th piece. IMHO, I was scammed by this seller and eBay needs to step in. I kept all the correspondence with this seller in eBay messages, so all they have to do is look at that can see it all unfold.
I appreciate any insight/suggestions anyone may have on this.
Thanks!

OP3 years agoI appreciate the responses. Yes I know the obvious could have, should have, etc. The seller was a highly rated seller and was offering to make and send me the piece. I had no reason to think initially that I would not get it. I would rather have had the piece as the quality was excellent.
I realize this went on longer than it should have was curious if anyone else had a similar situation and was able to resolve it. Going through the CC company is something I am in the process of doing.

·3 years agoThe MBG offered you a chance to fix this and you did not. Have no idea why that was, but this happened 5 months ago.
You allowed yourself to be taken advantage of, possibly because you did no understand the MBG.
If you paid with Paypal, you could open a case there. Or do a chargeback on your credit card.
After that, please do yourself a favor and read the MBG.

·3 years agoIf you didn’t open a return within the 30 days of delivery there is nothing for eBay to step in to assist with.
Sorry, but you should never allow a seller to talk you out of a return.

·3 years agoDid you use a credit card for the purchase? If so, you can file a chargeback/dispute with your bank/credit card company and get your money back. However, check your credit card dispute policy’s coverage window…most have 6 months but confirm first.

OP3 years agoYes. I started this process the other day just in case there was nothing eBay could/would do in this situation. Thanks for the sensible reply.
