Return Shipping Buyers Remorse
Just recently sold a beautiful pair of sterling silver weighted candelabras. Weighs 36 ounces. Seller thought that they were solid sterling and returned them. Cost me $22 to ship these. Since it is buyers remorse , will I get charged for return shipping. I think I am stuck with the $22 shipping as I offer free shipping.
What a fool to think that I was selling over 36 ounces of solid sterling for $500. This is happening a lot now when sterling has quadrupled. Greed.

Why do you consider the return 'buyers remorse'? The listing gives the Composition as 'Sterling Silver' ... and gives the weight of both the 'top' and 'bottom'.
What in the listing would have told a buyer that the item wasn't solid sterling. I don't see the word 'weighted' anywhere in the listing ... but perhaps I missed it.

There has never been a sterling silver candle holder. Sterling must be weighted in order to hold candles. This is a known fact among dealers and silver buyers. I have had 3 incidents lately with silver buyers and one left negative feedback of which I have not had in over 15 years. I am holding off selling silver right now as it brings the worst in people.
Will give full refund and then scrap the holders for well over $800. Already sold them.

·9 months agoYep, you are stuck with the $22 original shipping cost. Since the sale was "free shipping", you can't deduct something that you never charged them for in the first place. If you do try and the buyer fights it, you will lose 100% of the time and if they do a chargeback you will also get to pay another $20 chargeback fee on top of it and get a ding on your account. Just refund and move on. You might want to rethink the whole "free shipping" thing. It is becoming a thing of the past for many online retailers as is free returns.
As for the return shipping cost, that entirely depends on how you have your return policy set up. If they picked a buyers remorse reason (there are several of them) and you have your return policy set that buyers pay for return shipping then no, you won't be charged for the return shipping label.

Listing indicates 30 day free returns. Yes, you will get charged for return shipping. Listing doesn't mention the candelabras being weighted. Given the current market, I'd state that outright when you relist them. In fact I'd state it outright and explain exactly what it means. Not kidding. Set your expectations lower than they have any right to be and you'll cover all your bases.

Do you offer free returns?

·9 months agoOn remorse returns you are required to refund the item price. Since you offered "free shipping" that means there was no separate ship cost as it was integrated into the item price.
In other words, you cannot withhold the original label cost from the buyer's refund since you didn't charge separately for shipping. Count it as a loss.
