Return Labels on eBay
Summary: mamabeardsley expressed frustration with eBay's return policy, highlighting that sellers must often purchase expensive return labels off-site, increasing their costs. They noted that excessive returns could jeopardize their status as a top-rated seller due to eBay's policies. kensgiftshop added that other sellers have encountered similar issues, questioning whether eBay automatically issues shipping labels. fredkari-0 briefly commented on return parts without further context.
One more reason to transition away from selling on this site. A buyer wants to return a purchase because they "ordered the wrong thing." eBay demands the seller (me) send a pre-paid return label. There is no option to buy such a label through the site. The expectation is that you (the seller) will buy a label (presumably at USPS) and then download it to the buyer. The cost of such a label purchased off-site is about 30% more than the cost of the original label. So, not only is the seller (me) losing the money on shipping both directions, but even more money than expected. To add to the glamour of selling here, the amount of returns is calculated in the return rate; if you exceed eBay's random algorhythm for returns in that category you also lose the top-rated plus seller discount. Since offering free returns is required for top-rated plus staus, it no longer seems worth it to try and gain that level as eBay can then deny you the discount on fees because you have too high a return rate because of buyers like this. I place no value in the recent message from eBay that sellers are "protected." It is eBay that is protected, from the consequences of its bad policies.

I don't know if Ebay automatically issues the shipping labels or not?
