Return approved for eBay international order with no returns. Return reason: Changed mind
I am a bit stumped with this one and I am hoping someone else may be able to provide some more insight. I had a listing with no international returns that was just automatically approved. The return reason was that the buyer changed their mind and was not for an item not as described return. The package went from the United States to the United Kingdom if that makes a difference. I double checked the listing and changed the ship to location to the United Kingdom and it does show no returns on the listing itself. This was also a package that I sent directly to the buyer and was not sent with EIS. I have contacted eBay customer service and the eBay Facebook page and customer service has not been able to provide any answers. This is the second time this has happened in the last 6 months, the other was a package going to Bulgaria. I was hoping to see if there was something I was missing that someone else might be aware of.

·1 year agoI had one from UK about a month ago.
Buyer stated he already had item...'changed their mind'.
Now what the buyer clicked on for a return I don't know.
I don't think we get to see what the buyer clicked on for a return.
But my funds were on hold for the return plus 'shipping'.
I have returns so eBay automatically OK'd the return.
This r
eturn was open for 35 days...nothing returned...no tracking.
All I could do was a refund. Was it a glitch?

·1 year ago@rising-sun-photography, you're a very big seller, so I presume that you probably have a business account. That is probably significant in this situation.
If the sale was made to a UK buyer, they may very likely have been logged onto eBay UK when they made the purchase. That means that UK laws will prevail. In the UK, business sellers are subject to the UK Distance Selling Regulations. Among other things, business sellers in the UK are required to allow buyers to to return items within 14 days for any reason, when they are purchased "at a distance", ie. through mail order or internet sales.
So eBay UK handles return requests differently, when the seller has a business account. They will not enforce a "No returns" policy for business sellers. Buyers can return items for any reason, within 14 days of delivery. When listing on eBay UK, business sellers can't list with a "No returns" policy, I believe.

Your listings have a return policy so a buyer can return items for ANY reason or for no reason, remorse being one of them.
Several hundred listings have "free" returns, meaning you (the seller) pay for the return shipping.
Other listings (2100+) have buyer-paid returns, in which case the buyer pays for the return shipping.
Also, many listings have free shipping, meaning you cannot deduct the original shipping from the refund. For listings in which shipping was a separate line item payment, you don't have to reimburse original shipping.

OP1 year agoI do have free returns on most domestic listings in the United States. This particular case was for an international order with no returns set for international orders. I included a screenshot of the return policy from this particular listing above with the "no returns" portion highlighted.

·1 year agoIf the buyer has to pay return shipping, once they find out how much it's going to cost, they might not ship it back.

OP1 year agoThe buyer will be paying for the return shipping and due to the item cost it is unlikely that they will return the item. I am just more curious why this return was approved in the first place. I went to the original eBay message where the return was approved and followed a link to the eBay UK website policies on returns. I found the section for changed mind returns on no returns listings and it indicated that I should have been able to approve or decline the return in this situation. Except in reality the return was automatically approved and I wasn't given the option to decline the return.
