Return approved but no shipping label from seller as per eBay policy
So I am returning a defective item, seller approved the return but never send a shipping label and I got this confusing message on eBay. What do I do? Seller should be paying for the return shipping but he is not willing to do so. He is not responding to my messages.

OP5 months agoNo, seller is USA based in Florida.
I just paid for it and send it back and put the tracking number in the return area. I don't have time to monkey around for $12 worth of shipping. It is what it is.

A bit confused... so you're saying that you've already paid for a return shipping label? If so, you could have waited until Day 4 and had eBay step in. If not, wait until Day 4 and have eBay step in. By then, you may not even have to monkey around with shipping it at all.

·5 months agoIf this was for auto parts that offered a 30 day satisfaction guarantee and also FREE shipping and FREE returns on all items purchased then you should be ok getting a refund.

·5 months agoI am wondering if the return is going outside the USA...maybe to China..in which you pay for return shipping if seller doesn't send the funds to return it.
Is it 'drop shipping'?...did item come from a USA address but seller ID states another country in feedbacks?

OP5 months agoI should get a return label as per seller policy and agreement where "seller pays for shipping"

·5 months agoThis will sound tiresome, I know, but can you return here and detail the actual steps you took in opening an item not as described case?
After you opened the case, it should have worked this way: Buyer opens case, then waits 3 days for seller's response. The seller can a) just refund the buyer without requiring a return or b) send a prepaid return label and refund after getting the defective item back. If the seller does nothing, on the 4th day after opening that return the buyer asks eBay to step in and is refunded from the seller's funds.
The only other possibility I see would be if the seller is not in the US, as you are, and thus may be unable to send the return label, in which case he's required to Paypal or otherwise send the buyer money for return postage, I believe.
Don't worry, someone else will come along and correct me if I am wrong.

OP5 months agoI followed the exact process as you're describing. eBay portal said you will get a response and a shipping label by March 19th. What I go instead was this message below. I contacted the seller and he said that is eBay problem as they generate the shipping label and not him. I feel like someone is giving me the run around and I absolutely HATE it.

·5 months agoMore confusion: You have already sent it back, but you expect to get a return label?

Did you actually open an official eBay return case -- or did you simply ask the seller for permission to return?
To receive a return label for a defective item, you need to open an official eBay return case.

OP5 months agoYes I did open an official eBay return request but the message I got from eBay is what is pasted below. Looks like the seller approved the return. You usually get a QR code and a link or the label but not this time.
Perhaps something is broken in eBay's portal?

·5 months agoWe keep asking that same question and the OP keeps saying that he did open an actual return case, but I have never heard of anyone receiving the reply he says he received. Maybe we should ask one more time, so here goes: At the risk of upsetting you, need to inquire, can you return and tell us exactly how and where you opened this case?
Did you find the item in your Purchase History and click on "want to return"?
Did you use the reason "not as described"?
Did you wait 3 days for a response from the seller? If there was no response, did you return to your case and request that eBay step in?

A bit moot, I'd say -- the OP states in message #8 that the OP mailed it back on his own dime -- so there goes any refund, as well.
I'm suspicious of the seller being in Florida -- could be a freight forwarder, as others have suggested.
And now we'll never know. . ..

·5 months agoWhy would there be no refund? Is buyer not allowed to pay for their own shipping and use that tracking number to show item ruturned/delivered to seller?
powell-collectibles
·5 months agoAbsolutely, there is the option to return with your own label. Big difference is that any delivery issues are on you. With an eBay seller provided label, you just have to get it shipped, not worry about of it gets back to the seller.

"Why would there be no refund? Is buyer not allowed to pay for their own shipping and use that tracking number to show item ruturned/delivered to seller?"
If the buyer returned the item outside of an official eBay return case, eBay will have no record of the transaction -- without any official eBay record of the return, there is no leverage from eBay for the seller to refund.

·5 months agoNot absolutely certain, but it sounds like the OP already returned the item on his own dime, either not actually opening a case, or perhaps opening the case, but not waiting to receive a return label.
If that's the situation, he may have shot himself in the foot in terms of actually receiving a prepaid return label. If he did receive the label, what would he use it on, if he no longer has the item.
To the OP: Regarding that negative you left for a seller, did you or did you not open a case in that situation?
