Reported a Seller selling illegal fake phones with specs contrary to listing
I recently reported an item and a seller since he was selling fake phones. For example, the listing claimed things like 108MP camera, Samsung S21, and android 12 but when I got the phone, it was an Indonesian 29.99 cheap phone with 5MP camera running something like android 7. When confronted the seller, he offered to refund like $20 of the almost $200 paid. I evoked seller protection but have not heard back from ebay on this. Do I have to return this fake phone to get a refund? I'm sure if the seller is dubious and has no scruples, what prevents him from saying things like I never got it back or he received it broken and wont return my money? Plus, why should I help him scam someone else? How can I get a hold of ebay to follow up on getting my money back since it has been almost a week already and the seller says I have a few more days to ship it back for a refund?

·2 years agoFirst pull up the item under purchases. Then click return this item and select not as described for the reason.
Once you have done that, you will receive a pre paid return label. You then return it, won't cost anything to do so.

OP2 years agoI did this and tried waiting for ebay's reply about my seller protection, but never heard back and now the return's deadline was coming up so even though I was hesitant about returning a fake phone to an unscrupulous seller, I had to. I'm sure he'll make up something about not receiving it or receiving it incomplete or broken so we'll see.
May have to ask ebay to step in then and hope for the best but again, we'll see.
