Refusing item because seller used different shipping
Hi,
So we agreed with the seller to use one courier for shipping but after a couple of days i saw that he used FedEx express which we did not agreed upon.
Using Fedex incurs more costs on my side such as warehouse storing, door delivery etc. I did not consent to this, hence i told the seller i will be denieing the item while it was still in transit.
The item is now in my country but by accepting and returning it, means i will need to pay those additional costs. As i am aware ebay money guarantee doesnt cover refusal of item but in this case its not because i dont like it but because of the former reasons.
Seller policy in the return section states that they accept returns and they lay for the return shipping, but in personal messages he said that he wants to split the cost. I do not want to pay for their mistake. Whats your opinion on this?
P.s i never had to return and refund so im new to this

·2 years agoIs it different shipping or is it the shipping specified in their ad?
Maybe they agreed, maybe to look at, and perhaps they found the shipping you wanted cost a lot more. And so decided to go with the ad's original shipping.
But who knows, doesn't seem to be the full story here.

·2 years agoWhich courier did you agree with the seller on using? As far as I know all couriers have extra charges with delivering to another country. Are you sure that Fedex has more charges?
I don't know where the item is coming from but in North America when a courier uses an Express service, the receiver is not required to pay as many extra brokerage fees than they would have if the item was sent via a regular courier service. If you haven't ever had an Express delivery before you might want to wait and see what the charges are.

It is not uncommon for some buyers to balk at paying some carriers customs clearance fees.
I would not change carrier unless I knew that it would not cost the buyer a significantly higher customs clearance fee. When I shipped my own International shipments, this was one of the pains associated with international shipping. It contributed to my decision to stop shipping internationally until Ebay created GIS and now EIS.
It is a reason why I still do not ship internationally other than through EIS.
As a buyer, I will not buy from a seller who does their own international shipping from abroad, too much uncertainty about what I am going to have to pay in duty and fees.

It's easy to forget that buyers who use Paypal backed with a credit card have two more levels of Buyer Protection than the buyer who uses only their card* to pay.
*or their MP balance if they are also sellers a change which is being introduced

·2 years agoWhen you refuse a delivery, PayPal considers the purchase Item Not Received, and requires the seller to refund every single penny of the payment.
PayPal took pains to bundle "I refused delivery" together with "The item hasn’t reached me" in the same sentence.
So If your seller did not ship as agreed @filipb.39 and you paid with PayPal, start a dispute here with
Report a problem > I haven’t received the item or service > I refused delivery
to get all of your money back.

When you refuse a delivery, eBay considers the purchase Undeliverable,and does not require the seller to refund a single penny of the payment.

The buyer is responsible for any import fees , not the seller.
That includes customs brokerage fees which are the problem with private couriers.
Postal services have much much lower brokerage fees.
and they lay for the return shipping,
When you open a Not As Described dispute, the seller pays for all return shipping.
But.
You have to recoup any import fees yourself from the Macedonian customs department.
In future, either buy only from sellers using the eBay International Shipping service or hire a US-based freight forwarder.
Either should as part of their contract with you and the seller, charge any import fees upfront, not on your doorstep.

OP2 years agoThats all fine, i agreed to custom fees, i did not however agree on the fees by a private courier as i did not consent for seller to ship it that way.
Why should i pay for something i did specifically did not consent to?
How would you deal with a case when a seller ships something with a private courier that is not agreed upon, and that imposes more cost from buyer side?

Isnt this the same as in, its agreed to ship with ebay international and yet seller ships with something else
Also isnt this qulifying?

Item was marked as free shipping and i dont know how much it actually cost, and sellers fault caused fees to be higher.

·2 years agoSellers can't leave negatives. Sounds like you are sort of being bullied. Stop all communications and file a case. Let eBay handle it.
