    Refunding

With Ebay taking a good chunk of the sales. how do they handle a refund? Is the full amount refunded or does the seller lose Ebay's cut?

As long as you handle the refund and Ebay doesn't get involved, they refund their fee's, all but the small processing fee.

I'm confused, what do you mean by handling the refund myself?  Do I send him the complete sale price or the amount I recieved after ebay took their cut?

    Hi @rs2524

It means that YOU have to click the refund link YOURSELF.  That will release a full refund to the buyer’s payment source.

eBay will return the tax they collected from the buyer … as well as whatever fees they withheld from your payment.

You will be out only the 30 (or 40) cent processing fee.

[If you DO NOT refund the buyer yourself … then eBay will keep their fees and make you pay that portion back to the buyer (in addition to the funds you received).]

Are you dealing with a Return request, or are you just refunding? If it's a Return, you don't have to refund till it's back to you.

You would send the full refund via the eBay option.  eBay automatically refunds the tax portion, and their fees.

You are still out any shipping paid, and the .30 cent or .40 cent transaction fee.  That just comes out of your available funds or your funding source that is linked.

The buyer will get a full refund regardless of what happens in those cases.

    Now.

If you are processing a return request, you have the options:

    • To get your item returned before you refund it.
    • You can refund and let the buyer keep it.
    • Do nothing and make eBay step in.  However this should NEVER be done.  This is the worst thing to do. You will lose the fees (meaning they come out of your pocket) and get a strike on your account, the item doesn't have to be returned and the buyer gets a full refund.

If the seller refunds and does not make eBay do it, then they are not charged the FVF.    If eBay has to refund, then they are.  Listing fee if any and any extra services like reserve or promoted listings are charged.

If you do the refund properly, eBay refunds their portion of the fees.  However the transaction fee of .30/.40 cents is not refunded.  Nor is your shipping costs.  I should say, they are not compensated for you.  The buyer gets a full refund regardless.  The differences are out of your pocket.

If its an international transaction, currency conversion fees are also not refunded.

    Cost of doing business.

If you let eBay step in and do it for you, you forfeit all fee refunds and pay for the entire refund.
