Question about refund
I bought an item from a seller that looked mint in the listing photo, but when it arrived, the box is damaged. I contacted the seller, told the seller it was damaged before it was shipped. Because the packaging doesn't have any damaged from shipping. Although the original listing said returns not accepted, the seller agreed to a return. However, the item has been sitting at the USPS waiting for the seller to pick it up, and they haven't done so. Will I'll be refunded by the seller or eBay? if the item isn’t picked up.

·1 year agoHi @harryfernandeznd
It sounds like eBay believes the item should have been delivered by now … and has given the seller until the 30th to refund you.
If the seller hasn’t refunded you by the 30th … you can ask eBay to step in.

·1 year agoBased on your question here, may I respectfully suggest that you read eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers? For instance, a seller's "no returns" policy means nothing if the buyer received an item that's not as described.

In addition to my post above; I have failed to explain something..
It's very gracious and good form to give the seller the time to pick up the package and refund you on their own. Because if you ask eBay to step in and refund you, the seller will get a defect for unresolved transaction. This is the worst defect a seller can receive and too many of these will result in financial penalties and eventually the loss of selling privileges'.
It seems like your seller is honest, they really ARE away at the moment as reflected in their account settings (sometimes life gets in the way) so I tend to believe they will refund you asap.
As mentioned you have plenty of time to resolve your return/refund so Thank YOU for being patient.

OP1 year agoJust chatted with the seller—he said he’s out of town and will be back in a few days. But once he picks up the package, will it show as delivered in the eBay app and trigger the refund?
pikabo-icu
·1 year ago@harryfernandeznd Yes!! Do not close the return until you are refunded, just in case but it sounds like your seller is doing the right thing.

OP1 year agoI messaged the seller but haven’t received a reply. Their eBay profile says they’re away until Monday, May 26. Should I wait until then, or is it better to ask eBay to step in now

·1 year ago@harryfernandeznd Yes, I would give them until the 27th to retrieve the return and refund you. There's no way they can collect the package until they get home.
That said; if by the evening o the 27th, they haven't collected the package and refunded, get an eBay rep on the line via chat or a call back and escalate.
It sounds like this is an honest seller, they set their "time away" properly so I have every confidence they will do the right thing.
Don't worry, you have time to give the seller a little grace.

OP1 year agoHow many days do I have before I lose eligibility for a refund on eBay? Is it 30 days? I just want to make sure I'm covered. Should I count from the shipping date or some other date? I shipped it back may 16.
pikabo-icu
·1 year agoYou have 21 days after the date the return was opened.
The 30 days is the limit to file for the return request.
So you have plenty of time. Also since the package doesn't show delivered it's premature to have eBay step in.

Your seller is on time away so like I suggested, give them a day or 2 to get the package and then refund you, I know this is number one on your list but the seller will likely need a day to get to their PO and inspect the return.

OP1 year agoif he wont pick up the packaged? Do i need to escalate it with ebay to get my refund or will it automatically be refunded to me?
pikabo-icu
·1 year ago@harryfernandeznd You will need to escalate but I recommend you do so with the Chat on the link I provided or request a call back and have the rep do it on the phone. Since the return tracking wont show as delivered, you might need human eyes on it.
But again, give the seller a couple days, it just hit their post office on the 17th.

How long has it been sitting? There are a few bad weather delays right now.
Usually, the answer is yes, if the seller provided the label & if the package is lost or not picked up, that's on the seller.
Did you open a return for not as described? Or seller just agreed to the return?
harryfernandeznd
OP1 year agoIt arrived last saturday may 17, yes i open a return. But i didn't put it as not described. I put it as arrived damaged. Will that affect my refund?
pikabo-icu
·1 year ago@harryfernandeznd You are good you will get your refund.
I would give the seller a couple days, by Wednesday if they haven't collected the package you could ask eBay to step in,
If it's not showing delivered you will need to jump on the chat and have them look at it.
Scroll to the bottom and select Contact Us. But do give your seller a few days to collect the package.
