Need help with a refund from China
Hello,
I ordered an item (Guitar) from China 22 Jul 2025. It arrived on the 25 Sept 2025. After informing the seller on the very same day that they had sent the wrong item I requested to return the item via direct message.
After a few days of them continuely offering me a discount to keep the item I eventually raised a return with eBay on the 3 Oct 2025.
After checking the postage cost, I sent the amount on the 6 Oct 2025. However they continued to send me increased discounts to keep the item! Eventually they sent me the Postage amount on the 19 October 2025.
I then spent several days trying to confirm the address to send the item too as I had been given two, However come the 10th November my return case was closed because I had not added a tracking number, further more the 30days had now passed from reciving the item so the return period had passed. I rang and spoke to an eBay advisor explaining the situation, after a lengthy conversation the advisor confirmed i WILL be covered by the refund gaurentee, and I should confirm the address with the seller and return the item.
I did this and eventually got it posted 18 Nov 2025 after needing extra details from the Seller when booking the postage.
At some point in Mid Janurary I decided to check the status of the return, contacting my courier provider who updated me on all the details and on the 22 Jan 2026 I forwarded this details to the seller, advising them that the item was now at customs and required the taxes payig so it could be delivered. I recieved a reply of "hello friend, we will."
Come the 10 feb 2025 I prompted them for an update, whereby they asked for the tracking number. After no contact I again prompted an update asking me what address I used as the parcel had not arrived, again I informed them of the customs tax and advised them that customs had tried to contact them to arrage payment and delivery. Then again early march, and then again mid march asking me for the tracking number again.
At this point I contacted eBay again (Online chat), and to no surprise was told it was outside the returns policy and they couldnt help, I informed them of my call on the 10 Nov 2025 and that I was assured I was covered by the gaurentee. But the advisor seemed reluctant to honour this and I asked to raise a compaint However the advisor notice that by coincidence on that same day there was movment on the parcel tracking, so hopefully the seller had paid the tax and it was being delievered so I agreed to wait a few days...
A couple of weeks have passed since then, and today I recieved an email saying the Item has been returned to the UK and I have been charged for the privilage of this, and it will be delivered soon.
I've not decided my next course of action yet, however I would really apresiate any constructive information I can use or a best course if anyone has some insight or experience with this?
Thank you for reading

·4 months agoIf paid with a credit card, go to them to file a charge back. Forget about eBay helping at this point. If you have the tracking numbers showing returned it makes it easier with your bank. Just submit the records you have to your bank. Remember, your bank has time frame as well to file

·4 months agoeBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers offers very good protection when/if a transaction hits a snag, like buyer doesn't receive the item, or does receive something, but not the thing he ordered or the item is damaged.
The catch is that, because there's a time limit, the buyer has to be sure he is acquainted with the MBG and uses it correctly and in the30 day time frame.

·4 months agoIf the return case has been closed, nothing you can do through Ebay.
If you paid using a credit card, see how long their buyer protection is.
Hopefully it's returned in 1 piece, so at least you'll have it back.

·4 months agoYou are over 6 months late...you have to react quick & timely - you have 30 days from delivery to open the return case & then immediately follow what it prompts you to do. It sounds like you are a lazy buyer & sadly your lack of a refund will also follow that behavior towards the return - the seller will respond to it in 75 years when they feel like it.
You didn't follow the steps & now you are out of your money. You can't even dispute it with most payment cards due to the time on it. I suggest you try to dispute it.
