My item was returned by eBay authentication, but the return was sent to wrong address
Summary: tokyonimbus faced an issue with an item returned by eBay authentication being sent to their old address after a move. They believe the recipient sent it back to FedEx, which might return it to eBay. ryry-jj suggests contacting the eBay authentication facility, although this might not succeed since it was the original poster's mistake. albertabrightalberta advises updating the account address to prevent future issues. rokkworks and powell-collectibles recommend signing up for a FedEx account and contacting FedEx directly to potentially reroute the package.
So I had an item that didn't pass inspection unfortunately and was returned by eBay authentication, however I recently moved and forgot to change my address and it shipped back to my old place.
The recipient said they sent it back to FedEx in which case I believe it would just be returned to sender (eBay). Are there any steps I can go through to get my item back to the correct address? Any advice is appreciated.
I do trust that the recipient returned it like they said because I know them personally.

Make sure it is actually their official “Fed Ex help”. Explain. They’ll ask you to verify yourself and addresses via a secure portal before they help.
Good luck!
(I used this method to have FedEx change my address on a package that a seller had shipped to my PO Box. The seller didn’t know FedEx won’t deliver to PO Boxes. Fed Ex was great - I was surprised! They rerouted my package to a local fed ex store. I had to present ID to pick it up.)

Go into your account and revise the address so it doesn't happen again.

·Sep 13, 2026 at 4:09 PMThere are no specific steps ...eBay may consider it forfeited . My suggestion would be to do what you can do to contact the authentication facility, how, not sure...but someone manually has to make the effort to find it, make the changes and get it back to you.
I don't see all that happening since it was your error. The more likely scenario is it goes to liquidation. I'd be more upset that the person who received it and you know personally didn't contact you for you to get it back
