Major issue regarding USPS and damaged item/unresponsive
(Cant find the right location for this thread but)
I have a major issue on my hands but I'm just unsure what to do at this point. I don't want to end with what I think is the inevitable here but here goes,
I purchased an item probably back around in august. When I received the item I was disappointed that the majority of the quantity of the items was partially damaged. I contacted the seller who said they would file a claim with USPS. About a week later they said they got it figured out and that USPS told them that I would need to bring the package and the content of the package so they could inspect it. Within a few days, i went to my local post office with all the necessary things. I spoke to one gentleman who inspected the items and told me that he would have to take the package and send it to people who would have to further inspect the items to see if i could be eligible for a refund... I didn't think too much of it. He said that i should get a call within a month regarding the item. Fast forward a month and still nothing, so i instead waited longer. Life got in the way and to be honest i sort of forgot about it. Within 2 months of the item no longer being in my possession I decided to email USPS, i got no response after waiting about 2 weeks. Now after about 3 months of longer having it I finally had it and called USPS. I talked for about 15 minutes with a service representative who said they couldn't find the claim and that i should go to my USPS to see what was going on. Within that same week, i went to that same local USPS and for my 30-minute stay no one there could really help me. They didn't know of the claim, they didn't really know the worker i tried describing that had helped me. They suggested that i tried contacting different people, I did and they too could not help me. In the months after that i have made numerous emails and calls to which i have had no reply or someone tell me that they don't know what I'm talking about, making me look crazy.
The package was expensive and the content of the package was basically irreplaceable at that price. I really don't know what to do at this point as my package and the content of it should still be somewhere, probably sitting there or maybe someone took it home for themselves (trying to make a joke out of something that is already a joke of itself) .
If anyone could help me in the slightest that would be greatly appreciated

·3 years agoAll u had to do was open case as item arrived damaged u are AUTOMATICALLY covered by EBAY. No reason to do any of what u did. Too late now to open case on EBAY USPS only covers up to $100 unless additional insurance was purchased but none that relates to u just seller who is responsible and was paid by USPS I have opened MANY claims with USPS

·3 years agoThere is nothing that you can do. You had 180 days buyer protection. If the post office can't locate the item, then you need to forget about this and move on. This is a total loss. NEver let something like this drag out. You needed to open and item not described case when the items arrived broken. The seller needed to refund you and then he deals with the insurance. Read about the ebay MBG. Hopefully, your future purchases will arrive fine.

OP3 years agowell the refund scenario is through USPS but that's beside the point. At this point, I don't care about the money and I just care about actually having the item that I purchased. USPS took it, said I would get it back and now all this time later I still don't have it. And it seems USPS doesn't really care about helping me get my package back.. Which they took from me

No... the refund scenario (to you) is with your seller. The seller is the one who choose the carrier and will benefit from a USPS refund, if one might be issued. I feel bad for you if you handed over items that you actually wanted to keep, but you'd have had to send it back to your seller for an eBay refund anyway... if that's any consolation at all.
Upward and onward and all... good luck moving forward.

OP3 years agoSorry, yes i understand that. I said that, knowing that any compensation that the seller would receive would then directly be taken off the order total (the seller had told me that and I did belive it; good seller feedback). But like I stated the refund thing is behind me. I really just want the items I purchased that USPS took from me and now cant help me with retrieving it.

And what's worse... if USPS paid out a claim, they kept your items. Well, bought your items from the seller. Bummer...

OP3 years agoDo you have any ideas as to what I should do?

·3 years agoThe seller should have refunded you first, then they work with USPS.
If you paid with a credit card, contact them and see how long their buyer protection is.
Other then that, there's nothing you can do.

·3 years agoDoubt you can find your items at USPS as they took possession and probably refunded the seller. The items probably went to the dumpster.

^^ That's a good thing. Your next move is to open a claim with PayPal, but it'll be dicey if you don't have a return shipping scan. (For some reason, I feel like you don't.) Your third and final recourse is with the CC attached to the PayPal purchase. I don't know how this situation would play out there, either, without a return shipping scan.
However it goes, you're looking for a refund... I think the items are actually long gone. Hope you find others. 😣
ETA: My evil twin wishes you'd only carried the broken items to USPS. Oops... did my evil twin just type that out loud?

·3 years agoSorry to say that you are way beyond the timeline for any type of refund.
EBay is 30 days. Had you filed a Item Received Damaged claim with eBay, you would have been refunded.
PayPal gives you 180 days and most credit cards are the same.

·3 years agoYou have 30 days to open a 'refund' with ebay. You have about 4-6 months to do a charge back to your Credit Card or Paypal.
All of that has expired.
There is nothing you can do. You are out the $$.
You should have simply opened a return for refund; if you are nice enough to take it to the Post Office, you are doing that for the SELLER as the SELLER is the one that would be insured and get paid back.
If you had opened a return, the seller would have been forced to pay you within 48 hrs of receiving the item back and then 'they' can deal with it.
