Is seller responsible if return does not arrive?
Buyer is returning an item. Package has been going all over the place for awhile. I'm trying various means to get it on track. Am I responsible if the item is lost? Thanks.

OP1 week ago · EditedSo since the item hadn't arrived, the buyer actually opened a "had not received item" case and now the return is on hold until Oct 9 I guess to see if the item arrives. But this probably means I'll have a defect if the case is decided in buyer's favor as I now have no option to refund. Thanks for the help everyone. I'll take it step by step now.

·1 week agoThe reason for the return and the seller's return policy are the first things to pin down. eBay says the seller pays when the item was damaged, faulty or not as described; for a change-of-mind return, the return policy decides who pays.
Check the return details and confirm whether the label came from eBay, from you, or from the buyer.
Save the tracking history and the last carrier scan. If you provided the label, open the carrier inquiry; if the buyer bought the label, they normally need to contact that carrier.
Keep the return request updated with the tracking number and dates rather than relying on messages alone.
Ask eBay to step in from the return details if the tracking stalls and the case cannot be resolved.
The help page also recommends tracked return shipping because eBay can see the progress if it is asked to help: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/managing-returns-refunds/return-shipping-for-sellers?id=4703
I would not call the outcome from a moving scan alone. First establish who bought the label and whether the tracking shows a delivery attempt or a carrier exception.

·1 week agoWhile blues have always said whomever pays for the label is responsible for the end delivery of the package, I have been able to appeal returns that never arrived and got refunds "reversed".

·1 week agoWhomever purchased the label is responsible for it getting there.
If you sent the buyer a return label, it's on you..............
