I bought a pair of AirPods Max and they were fake

I recently bought a pair AirPods Max (purple, 2nd gen) through eBay, the seller used good pictures and even had the receipt saying he had bought them in Orlando, last September. He also had a high price, approximately 400 dollars. I asked him privately if he could send me the serial number and he said that he wasn’t home but I could check the receipt and that it was listed there, I wrote the serial on the apple page and they seemed original, the same color, the same date of purchase, it even had “apple care+â€. When I received them, they looked off, the box was off too (the apple was a different color than it had to be, the word AirPods Max were a different color), so I took it to a Mac store and they checked the serial number and it had numerous reports of it being used on multiple devices and agreed that the box was not authentic nor the headphones. I’m having a lot of trouble as the seller didn’t accept returns but now he’s telling me to send the item back, as I’m from Panama the shipping costs would be approximately $331 to send them back, what do I do? I simply cannot pay for that, and he (ofc) texted me that he’s not going to pay for the shipping costs.

Go to your purchase history and click return item and select, the item doesn't match the description as the reason.
The seller will have 3 days to accept the return and pay return shipping or refund without returning.
If they don't, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in.

-- to ship within 10 days from Miami (where they were originally delivered)
-- back to the seller, to deny a refund because you returned fakes instead of the original originals.

·7 months agoRarely, if ever, would a buyer be provided a return shipping label if eBay steps in. They would typically just be refunded.
Even if they do, while you are correct that the return shipping label would be from the delivery address in Miami, the seller would not have the option to simply deny the refund. They may be able to contact eBay and say that they received fakes back in return, but of course the chances of them doing so are probably slim.
However, @mon_684, you should be aware that having the item forwarded from the address it was shipped to does void your coverage under the eBay Money Back Guarantee.

You need to check tracking when item was received and was marked 'delivered' a the hub in Miami to do a refund.
The timeline is important.
A seller can use Pay Pal for a buyer for a purchase of a return label from Panama to seller address.
I kinda think that won't happen...but you can try...

but yeah, the item was delivered on the 27th of January and I received it here yesterday (February 2nd) and filed the claim immediately.

OP7 months agoHi! Yes, I shipped it from Miami to Panama through a company (I have a type of “locker†and when an item is delivered to my locker, they send it to me)

Then probably pay the freight forwarder to ship them back to the seller.

Here’s what to do:
File a ‘return request’ from your Purchase History (in My eBay) … choosing ‘Item doesn’t match description or photos’ as the reason for the request.
If the seller fails to provide either a prepaid shipping label OR a full refund within 3 business days … then go back to your open request on Day 4 and ask eBay to step in. eBay will do the rest.
[A foreign seller may have to send you the money BEFORE you purchase a shipping label … as they cannot purchase a shipping label outside their own country. They can use PayPal or a similar app to transfer the funds.]
A buyer is NEVER responsible for paying return shipping when they receive an item that is ‘not as described’. Read eBay’s Money Back Guarantee for reassurance.

OP7 months agoHello! By “eBay will do the rest†you mean that they’ll probably give me my money back?
im pretty sure id be less trouble and the seller would kind of lose less money if he just gave me a refund instead of me sending it back, because as i said , its super expensive.
And yeah, thats exactly what I did, I filed the return request and chose that the item didn’t match what was listed and commented that he sold it to me as an original but it was fake.
