I am curious to know your feelings about the 30 day returns policy, to qualify as a Top Rated Seller
It seems to me that with the economy being what it is, money is pretty tight. I would think that after 14 days, a buyer would know if they want the item or not. The real issue is having to accept a return on day 29 or 30 because the buyer found it a few dollars cheaper from another seller. I see no upside to this. What are your thoughts?

·1 year agoNormally, I don't mind it as I literally get only 2 or 3 returns a year. I think the only upside to it is that it gives the customer incentive to buy it. What I have a problem with is the 3 week window for them to mail it back, once they have opened the case and they have been provided with the return label. IMHO one week is sufficient.

·1 year agoI’m TRS, I don’t accept returns. You’re thinking of TRS plus where you need to offer free 30 day returns with 1 day handling.
And yes, I am fully aware if the buyer opens a NAD return I have to accept it.

·1 year agoMy return rate. for years. has averaged 1% or less. Usually down around 1/2 of 1% so for me it not an issue. As a TRS+ the extra FVF savings I get more than covers the very few returns I get.
Now, I do notice that some categories have very high return rates. Clothing, electronics, etc. In those categories it may be a different story.
It all depends on what YOUR return rate looks like.
There is no One Size Fits All policy.

·1 year agoTRS+ applies to your listings if they meet the criteria and you are already a Top Ranked Seller.
I do not need no stinking badges.

·1 year agoYou can still be a top rated seller with 14 day returns.

·1 year agoI have returns where buyer returns in 14 days and pays for return shipping.
Have my first return in years...opened on May 14th-until-June 5th.
item has not been received yet and no tracking from UK on it.
Does the buyer expect me to just refund them because 'he already has it'?
I didn't expect tracking and would refund if it was just returned without tracking...but not even a personal email from buyer and just the eBay 'refund buyer' if I want to be nice?
It seems my buyer thinks I send out items for free...returning nothing.
And of course, eBay puts a hold on the item's fund for more than 2 weeks.
Can't wait until the 5th to see what happens...no tracking on item.

·1 year agoI have post its upon post its on my wall with important information that I have garnered here.
I have to say that I feel grateful to have the opportunity to make some money and maybe offer something someone may be looking for. With that said, I fully understand the risk reward that all sellers must weigh. It works for me and maybe not for everyone.
Their platform.
Their rules.
I do want to give kudos to all that so patiently reply with a plethora of much welcomed information and kindness.
Thank you.

·1 year agoI offer 30 days returns, TRS or not.
If they are not happy with the item, I'd rather have them return it for a refund.

·1 year agoI wouldn’t think that extending to 30 days has a significant impact on return rates. Perhaps with some categories – may be clothing? Heck, you might even see a decrease – some buyers that might want to return an item procrastinate, procrastinate, procrastinate – then forget about it.
And perhaps the economy helps in reducing return rates. If buyers are more careful with spending, perhaps they will put more thought into what they really want to buy, leading to fewer returns.
even with the news about people pulling back on spending, the rates of those indicating that the economy is causing them to pull back on purchases isn’t much different than it was in 2024, which isn’t much different than it was in 2023. Despite what people might see in the news, or have in their worst fears, most people are doing just fine.

·1 year agoThose are the rules we agreed to when you signed up for eBay. Some brick mortar stores have similar terms, others not. If you don’t like the terms, you are not forced to accept. eBay is not the only player in town, but the do have a lot of exposure. Depending on what you offer, it could work.
