Got scammed by a seller and now "This case can’t be appealed"
Seller had a game listed as "working in good condition". When I received it, it was in fact not working and I had it inspected by professionals who said there were underlying issues. I put in a return request exactly one month after I had received the item, with return reason "Item didn't match description". A month later the seller closed the case denying the return request, and now it says "This case can’t be appealed". At this point what do I need to do to get my money back?

OP10 months agoIt's almost like they could have just put that info in a short sentence on the return page like "if seller does not accept or deny return in 4 days, reach out 'here'

No matter they put the information ... there will be people who will miss seeing it ... and will blame eBay for not putting it in a more obvious place. eBay's Money Back Guarantee is in EVERY listing. I'm sorry that you didn't see it or ask about it.
If you used a credit card to pay ... you should have no difficulty getting a chargeback if you phone the number on the back of the card!!! [Hope you can see this!] 😊

OP10 months agoI just picked your answer because I like your username and pfp. I still think they should put that info on the return request page because I was checking that almost every day waiting for an update.

No, I don't think you hate eBay and you are not a dumbass. I think you hate that you didn't know how to handle the return process but now that you have been given more info, next time there is a problem, you will know what to do. (And next time, if possible, don't wait until the very last minute to file a return claim. Even though you are given 30 days, it is best to handle these promptly.)
In this instance, to get your money back, eBay is out of it (because of time limits) so you will have to go to your payment source (credit card, etc.) and file a chargeback.
Good luck and if you have any more questions, come back and ask.

·10 months agoWhen a buyer receives an item that's not as described, he is well protected by eBay's Money Back Guarantee IF he is familiar with it and uses it correctly.
You had 30 days to open an item not as described case with eBay. If you did that, then if there was no response from the seller in 3 days, on day #4, you needed to return to the case and request that eBay step in. I can't tell if you did that or not. If you had followed this procedure in less than 30 days after receipt and the seller did not respond, eBay would have refunded you from the seller's funds and told you to keep the item.
To the best of my knowledge, the seller cannot unilaterally close the case denying the return request.
If, for some reason, the situation cannot be resolved this way, you can usually do a chargeback on your card. I believe most of them give more than 30 days.

OP10 months agoI opened the return case in 30 days after being shipped the product, and I thought I had to wait for the seller to either accept or deny the return request first. It said I had to wait for the seller to respond to the return request so I just waited until they finally responded denying the request almost a month after I made the return case. Am I just screwed?

·10 months agoAt this point, you have to see how long your bank or credit card allows for you to do a chargeback. That would be your only option.
As for returns, eBay has money back guarantee for "Items Not As Described" within 30 days. Once the return is opened, the seller has 3 days to provide a resolution. If there is no resolution by the 4th day you may request eBay to step in. If nothing is done between the buyer and seller for 21 days, eBay automatically will close the return, at which point you may not be able to appeal it.

·10 months agoeBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers offers very good help if/when a transaction goes awry. Of course, you have to read it, understand it and use it in a timely fashion.

·10 months agoWhy is that?
It is up to you to understand what the MBG does for you and what it doesn't.
It is next to impossible for a buyer to be out money without user error.

·10 months agoYou are on eBay but check to see how long for you have to file a charge back with your credit card or bank.

·10 months agoWhen you started the return, you could have returned to case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in for a refund.
Now that you let the case time out and close, contact your payment source and see if they can help.

·10 months agoSo just to be clear:
You opened the return a month after purchasing and then waited an additional month from then for the seller to close the return?
