getting hit with scammer buyers please help, recently we had several buyers sending empty boxes.
please help we had several returns where buyers changed the address on the return label and returned items to neighbors with same zip with empty boxes. We ended up giving a refund to buyers since it shows delivered on our side and per eBay, we have to provide a refund. We called USPS and also postal inspectors and got no help it is very time-consuming.
so far what we found online and with experience eBay does not provide seller protection for buyers doing this type of fraud. What can be done to protect sales?

·2 years agoI would think when buyers that send empty boxes back should be an easy fix. The carriers weigh the items (sometimes multiple times through out the journey) so if it is an item the weighs 5 pounds and the package sent back is only 1 pound, shouldn't that be enough? I understand that it is difficult for the USPS to know exactly what is suppose to be shipped but if it is a Ebay return (with Authorization Number) you would think Ebay should be able to help with these issues. No?

·2 years agoeBay may still help, but it is still a pain.
Go to the USPS and speak with the postmaster there (or the branch manager) at a time that is not too busy. They can provide you with a letter stating that the package was delivered to an address OTHER than your return address (they will not provide you with the actual delivery address). Use that letter to file an appeal with eBay, arguing that this is a scammer manipulating the Money Back Guarantee.
What can be done to protect sales? As a Top Rated Seller, if you offer 30-day returns on your items and meet other eligibility requirements, then you will add a layer of seller protection to your account. Scammers know the eBay system better than most sellers, and they tend to target sellers who list "no returns" because of the lack of seller protection. Details of the seller protection can be found on this policy page.

OP2 years agoThanks for the reply, I tried doing that but the USPS agent refused to provide a letter stating they were supposed to deliver to the address on the label. In my area we don't have a post office we can walk in it is a distribution center only way I can talk to someone is through the phone. More challenging is when seller receives an empty box and eBay does not do anything about that.
