Fraud, sort of.
Ebay sent me a notice to stop using an e-bike battery and to contact the seller. I contacted the seller and got no reply. Two days later the seller has completely removed themselves from ebay. Every number I call at ebay has the same answering machine answer... it always ends, after answering a serious of questions, the same, get your answers on line, good bye. There is no answer for this question. I need to talk to a representative to try and get my money back. Ebay caused the problem and spooked the seller into leaving, now they provide no resolution. I have no way to contact them because they have been deeted and Ebay keeps direct contact information from us. How can I talk to a person?

·2 years agoIf you purchases it less than about a year ago and used a credit card to pay, contact your card company. Some of those batteries can be very dangerous starting fires.

OP2 years agoPayPal is working on it. Sadly I used my bank account so I have only PayPal to go to bat with eBay. Which I believe might be a conflict of interest as they are one and the same.

·2 years agoEven if eBay spooked the seller into leaving, if they respond to the payment dispute caused by your bat at PayPal with a return address, you'll need to return the battery at your expense with tracking to get your refund.
eBay and PayPal are separate companies, so there's no conflct -- but perhaps favoritism due to the volume of business. OTOH if you file a chargeback with the PayPal Cashback Mastercard against PayPal, then that might be a conflict of interest.

The seller probably bought the battery somewhere other than from the manufacturer or its authorized distributor, knows nothing about the recall, and is not going to help you.
This is what happens when you ignore the authorized distribution channels and buy things on Ebay which can and do fail.
Many manufacturers will not honor a warranty on an Ebay purchase either.
I assume that no one will stand behind what I buy on Ebay after the Ebay MBG expires. If it fails, I expect to dispose of it. What I pay is based on assuming that.

OP2 years agoIt is a safety recall produced by eBay. The seller is a pseudonym for the manufacturer who is still selling under their own name the same battery on eBay. eBay apparently is unaware of this. The recall is so vague I don’t know what the problem is. I assume it is the cells used by the builder. If so, I have four other batteries I know they built. If this one why not all. I would like some proof that this is a true safety problem. I can find none. eBay won’t explain what the source of their concern is so I can’t confirm it.
