Fees for cancelling/refunding an order
Summary: mel6498 shared their surprise about eBay's fee for refunding an order due to out-of-stock reasons, noting that the fees significantly reduce their earnings as a casual seller. shire123 responded, mentioning their experience of not being charged fees in similar situations. janet9988 provided a link to eBay's fee policies, while bonanza125 emphasized the importance of reading terms and conditions and managing listings carefully. The discussion highlights challenges and insights related to eBay's fee structure for non-business sellers.
I, apparently, did not read or inform myself about the fee that eBay charges for refunding an order. Found out today about that. I am not sure but I think any order you cancel and refund will occur a charge. For out of stock - this was my reason. I list for extra income under the 250 free listings that they provide and do not sell as part of a business. In cases of sellers who run businesses or have eBay stores I would understand this charge and how it could apply. I receive over half of the money I make on eBay after the 13% charge on the price of my items and the shipping costs. For the time I put into describing, measuring and photographing items it is like I work for eBay. I am simply going to ask people who read about this to mention to other people who you know sell on eBay about the fees for cancelling and refunding an order so that they are informed. Thanks. Good luck to you all.

·2 weeks agoTo address another part of your post, for most of us who sell...with all the time we put in to it, & for the same hour we put in, we most likely would make more money if we worked at mcdonalds. I just prefer to not smell like french fries when I stop working

·3 weeks agoI would actually suggest which you brought up first is for people to read the terms and conditions before clicking submit listing. Most people here are regulars who already know about fees that Ebay will keep if you select "out of stock" which is why it's important to know what you have and remove listings which have either sold elsewhere or no longer as described the way it's listed. The amount of time you put in is like you run a business not work for Ebay. Ebay is a selling platform you are using to either profit or lose on.

·3 weeks agoIn the very few situations that I have had to cancel an order (once in the past year), there was no fee involved with my refunding the buyer.
I have also totally refunded a sale when I have made a mistake and let the buyer know what's going on. Again, no fee for the complete refund.
