eBay should consider allowing the seller to request 3rd party reviews on INAD cases
I accepted a $17 offer on a jacket listed at $45 and upon receipt, the buyer claimed the jacket didn't fit them the way they expected. The buyer included pictures of them wearing the jacket but they were hunched over and holdng the sleeves to make the jacket look tight. The buyer then said they were willing to keep the jacket (that doesn't fit) if I sent them $15 of the $17 they actually paid me to account for their disappointment. Instead of claiming "doesnt fit" as their reason for their return, they claimed INAD.
In these instances, the seller should be able to say 1) I do not agree with the reason for the return AND 2) request a third party review BEFORE the refund can be issued. eBay can then take a look at the messages, see that the buyer is not being forthcoming and gaming the system.
If this ia already a thing, this option was not offered to me and I was forced to refund the original shipping.

·2 years agoActually eBay did once have a program that was close to that. Back then to file a not as described case, the buyer needed a report by an expert on that item on official letterhead. Try finding that......

·2 years agoI can tell why it didn't last long.
That sounds like the dumbest thing ever.
Unless experts inspected the item first. What would the experts compare it to ? What the seller listed ?
The authenticity guarantee and eIS are the only viable programs they have because its not direct to the consumer and gets inspected.

·2 years agoBefore that, there was NO buyer protection at all. It was tough tooties . No such thing as filing a case.
Yes the expert was to compare the item to the description the seller wrote.

·2 years agoBut you had CC and PayPal protections? Was this before PayPal?
I would suspect the CC chargeback rate was much higher.

·2 years agoYou are trying to sell one of the most subjective merchandise categories on the planet. Clothing fits everyone differently. It's one of the most hated items for merchants to handle, even if it IS lucrative. It's a major reason I do not touch clothing for resale. For every 100 buyers you have 200 reasons they want to return it.

·2 years agoIt Being not as described can be the reason it doesn't fit.
This is what hurts a lot of buyers is because if you asked me why I'm returning the jacket is because it doesn't fit me.
Question is why doesn't it fit ?
Ebay isn't going to play inspector gadget.
EBay customer service will tell you a lot of things to make you feel better.

OP2 years agoI dont have an issue if the buyer wants to return an item if bc doesn't fit; I want the buyer to be happy with their purchase.
My issue is the buyer trying to get me to pay them over 80% of what they paid to keep a jacket they claim doesn't fit. Why would you keep an item that doesn't fit? That doesn't make sense. So what they did was instead of claiming it doesnt fit and losing their original shipping cost, they lied and claimed INAD.
In any case, I'm over it because the jacket sold for more elsewhere and I recouped all of my money and made a small profit. The lesson for me is beware of lowballers.

·2 years agoSelling fees would skyrocket if eBay had arbitrators look at a million $17 disputed INAD's over the course of a year. Not feasible.
Shake it off and make some money.

OP2 years agoThat's exactly what I did. Sent the full refund, reported the buyer, blocked them and made sales.

·2 years agoThe seller can ask for a third party review.
That's what asking ebay to step in is.
However, what are they going to review?
This third party didn't see what was sent. Didn't know how it arrived.
Ebay has added some programs where a return can be flat out denied because it first goes to a third party before the customer. This is the only way it can happen.

OP2 years agoebay can see that the buyer originally claimed in the messages to me that the jacket "didn't fit" but when they ask for the return they claimed not as described. ebay wouldn't have to see the item to determine the buyer is gaming the system.
when the buyer opened the case as an INAD, I wasn't given any options. the return was automatically started and i had to give them a full refund. even after I contacted ebay and they read the messages, ebay agreed that it was a remorse return and not an INAD, I wasn't given any other option. yes, i could state that i didn't agree with the INAD but that was it.
in any case, I sent the reund without argument, reported the buyer, blocked them and moved on.

·2 years agoOf course, this isn't already a thing.
Opinions about whether or not something is as described can be quite subjective, especially in the category of clothing.
Just curious, if the buyer's complaint is about fit, that's a"remorse return" and you need to read up on how those can be handled.

OP2 years ago😒@ Of course, this isn't already a thing.
IMO either an item fits or it doesn't. What irked me was suggesting that I pay them to keep a jacket they claimed didn't fit and then lying out of spite bc I wasnt wlling to issue a partial refund of their lowball offer. In any case, I will take your advice and review suggestions on how to handle a remorse returns. Thank you.
