Ebay not automatically generating return labels -- ongoing issue
I've had a problem over the last several months that I cannot get figured out.
I have free 30 day returns, I pay return shipping.
I have RMA turned off.
It does it for any kind of item regardless of category, size, cost, etc.
I haven't changed anything, it just stopped working for me about 4 months ago. I'm at my wits end and need to see if anyone else is having this issue and if they were able to fix it. I hate having to do all the legwork and pay way more out of pocket for return labels. Absolutely hate it.
Out of the blue, ebay stopped generating return labels for me when a buyer opens a return. I've been back and forth with customer service, they are no help.
I was forwarded to a guy in ebay's shipping department on one of my phone calls who looked into one of my returns (a laptop computer) and saw that internally in Ebay's system, it thinks that the items are something crazy like 320 pounds, and the packages are 36x36x36 or some other ridiculously large dimension (I can't recall the specific figure). This in turn is triggering ebay's internal system to not automatically generate return shipping labels since it exceeds maximum weight/dimensions. He told me this is clearly a software bug and made a note of it, and nothing has changed. I'm not sure if that's real or not and am seeking help here.
I saw one other person who made a similar post about this issue in 2024 or 2025, but I can't find it anywhere for the life of me. I googled to see if this is a common issue and came up empty.
Please help me figure this out.

·7 months ago@studioreclaim I don't see any 'nintendo' sold on this account name past 90 days; was it another account?
studioreclaim
OP7 months agoNope, this one.

Could there be some type of issue with your return address in the return settings?
studioreclaim
OP7 months agoMy return address hasn’t changed, and was my return address before this weird bug started.

OP7 months agoBumping this post to see if anyone else can help or has this issue. Ebay customer service is useless.
This item has free 30 day returns, RMA turned off, etc. It still will not generate a label. Again, this has been going on for months.

·7 months ago@studioreclaim just another thought; is the buyer you are trying to give a 'return label' for from outside the USA?
studioreclaim
OP7 months agoNope, they’re in the USA.

·7 months agoThis is a just a thought that occurred to me, but I pulled up that listing, and it shipped with Free USPS Ground Advantage Shipping.
When you use Free Shipping, are you specifying the weight and size of the package? I don't believe eBay forces you to do so, so you would have the option of leaving it blank.
If so, it might be preventing you from generating a return label because it doesn't have any way to know if it meets the requirements.

OP7 months agoI always make sure to put the dimensions in during listing. It has no effect.

·8 months agoWhy are you having to pay 'way more'?? You can purchase labels on paypal or pirateship and 'message' them to buyers.
Yes, it's more legwork and I don't know the fix for your issue, but still don't understand the 'way more' comment.
