Does buyer have to return item to make insurance claim?
Buyer received item that postal service broke. I purchased insurance on item. I do not want item back and don't think I should have to pay to have item returned. Can I refund to buyer and make claim to insurance carrier without receiving item back?

1. Ask the buyer to hold on to the item, box and all packing material. USPS will most likely ask to inspect it before making a decision on the claim. If USPS asks to inspect and the buyer doesn't turn everything over, USPS will deny the claim.
2. Ask the buyer if they'll snap a few photos to help with your claim.
3. Carriers deny most damage claims citing 'insufficient packaging' unless there's noticeable damage to the outer box, so be prepared for that possibility.
