Contacting Ebay about a misleading Ad
Does Ebay make a reasonable effort to remove misleading ads? Should buyers be stuck with unusable items because of misleading ads? Is it impossible to speak to a real Ebay customer service rep?

Don't ALL buyers have the Money Back Guarantee?
And shouldn't ALL buyers know how to use it?

eBay does not check the bona fides of people who apply to sell on this platform.
The absence of any sort of quality control results in all manner of deception and falsehoods in listings (and that is a lot more prevalent in certain categories of merchandise than others).
The good news, as others have noted, is that you are not stuck with an unusable item.
My humble advice would be to go strictly through eBay's computerized system of requesting a return. That will place the onus of the return squarely on the seller.
Do not contact the seller directly, and do not respond to seller messages asking if they can fix the problem for you. That will create unnecessary ambiguity and could delay your refund.

Does Ebay make a reasonable effort to remove misleading ads?
Probably not. eBay has no way of knowing that an ad is 'misleading' until a BUYER actually purchases the item and discovers it is not what they thought it was ... and then files a return request with eBay.
Should buyers be stuck with unusable items because of misleading ads?
Absolutely NOT. Buyers are NEVER 'stuck' with unusable items because they have eBay's Money Back Guarantee, which fully protects them ... as long as they file a 'return request' claim within 30 days of receiving the item.
Is it impossible to speak to a real Ebay customer service rep?
No, it's NOT impossible ... but neither is it necessary or particularly useful. All a buyer needs to do is file a 'return request' from their Purchase History ... choosing 'Doesn't match description or photos' as the reason for the request. [The buyer can then ask eBay to step in after 3 business days have passed IF the seller hasn't provided a prepaid shipping label OR a full refund by then.]
