Camera Return Errors to Correct
Greetings -
I want to pay for an item which I began a return for and have since been refunded for. Here's what happened:
1. I purchased a camera digital body. It arrived with what appeared to be damage to the sensor. I asked the seller if I could attempt cleaning and he refused, so I initiated a return.
2. I've since attempted cleaning the sensor and been successful, but I've received a full refund.
3. The seller has agreed to allowing the transaction to proceed. But how?
I want to pay the seller for the item with the returned funds, or have eBay do so on my behalf. I can't contact eBay and can't see how to prompt them to step in. I could just pay the seller, but that would be off eBay, and I'm reluctant to do so until eBay directs me that that's the way to proceed.

You and the seller can work out a way to repay like Pay Pal or another service.

OP2 years agoThank you for your reply! After posting, a UPS carrier came to my door asking for a package from me. I believe eBay attempted to pick-up the camera for the return, although they didn't correspond regarding the pickup.
My concern is that eBay still expects the item to be returned. How can I be assured that, as you say, they view the transaction as finished and do I need to be concerned that they do, in fact, view it that way?

The seller might have tried to have it picked up, but Ebay wouldn't.

OP2 years agoMy concern is that eBay has no record of my return, (since I didn't return the item), yet has record of my providing me a refund. That seems to put me in a precarious position if I pay the seller outside of eBay, doesn't it? If the seller were to tell eBay that he hasn't been refunded, and eBay can see I haven't made a return, could they withdraw funds from my account or claim that I acted fraudulently? (Of course, I'll keep good record of my PayPal payment to the seller, but just thinking this through ..).
Thanks again,
Vic

·2 years agoWhen the seller issued the refund, it closed the case and there's nothing Ebay will do now.
When a seller issues a refund before the item is returned, they are saying they don't want it returned.
You can repay the seller or not, there's nothing Ebay will do because the case is closed.
If the seller tries to say you were refunded, but didn't return the item, they'll tell the seller they are SOL, they shouldn't have refunded before the item was returned.
No, there won't be a record of the return, because the case was closed when they issued the refund and you were not required to return the item.
If the seller still wanted it returned, there's nothing they could do through Ebay.

Anything that happens now is between you and the seller and Ebay will will not get involved.
