Buyer timeframe to return a item he doesn't want
I recently sold a piece of jewelry, I state on my postings that I do not accept returns. I got a message from the buyer stating that he did not think the item was as described and then stating one of the stones rocked a 16th of an inch. Neither of these statements are true and this person had earlier offered me a lower price which I declined, I think he is fishing for a rebate to the price I turned down earlier.
Regardless I immediately told him to open a return and send it back for a refund. He then said he wanted a few days to think about it. I gave him a little over 2 days and then sent another message asking for an update on his decision. I have not heard back and am curious how long he would have to return the item? Since I do not accept returns the 30 days is not valid but since he is claiming there is a defect how long do I need to wait on this?
I am concerned he will create damage to the item prior to returning it. I also have other interested parties so would like to relist as soon as I can.
Thank you!!

OP3 years agoSo he has 30 days to decide whether he wants to open a return based on what he is claiming even though I have offered to refund him immediately. Is this correct?
Another question then, if you offer refunds when you list a NAD person could not keep your item and get a refund both since you have upfront stated you take refunds, is this true?
You like to think buyers are upfront but I can see that may not always be the case.

·3 years agoThe buyer has 30 days from the delivery date to open a return case. If they open a Item Not As Described type of case, you have to accept the return IF you want the item back before refunding.
Don't poke the buyer anymore. I always respond with "sorry to hear that you are not pleased with your purchase. Please return for refund" and leave it at that. Puts the ball in their court and wait and see what they do.
If the buyer opens a Item Is Not As Described type return case, you have choices.
1. You can refund now and let the buyer keep the item.
2. Accept the return and make sure a prepaid return label is available in the return case. The buyer returns the item and then you refund in full.
3. Do nothing or allow eBay to handle the case. eBay will close the return, refund the buyer and allow the buyer to keep the item. You also receive a serious defect on your seller account for having eBay step in and refund, thus doing your job as a seller.

·3 years ago"No returns" does not mean "no returns"on eBay. Buyer can return the item for a refund. If buyer opens a case do a return label and then refund the buyer. If you do not refund the buyer eBay will refund the buyer with your funds and buyer will keep the item for free. Doesn't matter what the buyer thinks or what you might think is wrong or not wrong with the item. Buyer has 30 days from delivery date to do a refund. I don't recommend partial refunds unless you might really need the money. And I don't recommend doing email messages back and forth. Let the buyer decide what he wants to do now. Be very polite and businesslike. There is always that feedback to think about. Block the buyer.

·3 years agoHe has 30 days to open a claim with eBay at which point they will give him effectively 3 weeks to start the return process and print the label and get a scan, though the buyer can ask for more time at which point eBay can grant the buyer an additional two weeks plus the time it takes the item to ship back.
Otherwise, the buyer can go to their payment institution and do a chargeback in most cases as long as 6 months after the transaction. Which in a NAD (which when claiming not as described) is a loss for the seller every time.
