Buyer sends a message that the software they purchased is not compatible with their computer
A buyer purchased new, sealed Mac software from me that was delivered on February 11. Today (3-27-23), I get a message from the buyer stating that the software is not compatible with his computer; the listing provided a clear photo of the system requirements on the box. The person has not opened a return request and I have not replied to their message yet.
I plan on responding diplomatically, will kindly state that too much time has passed and that the item sold is no longer in its original condition. I will tell the person to contact Ebay with any issues and that I will comply with any of Ebay's recommendations. Is there a particular procedure I should follow? I understand that the buyer has options to use...NAD, charge dispute etc. Does being past the 30 day mark give me even a sliver of protection in this situation? Thanks for any replies.

·3 years agoDid your buyer pay with Paypal? If they did they usually get 180 days on there for returns but they have to pay the shipping. If they used a credit card they can always try a chargeback for around the same amount of time as Paypal.

·3 years agoI would not suggest you have the buyer contact eBay, you state you will comply with any of eBay's recommendations. eBay will recommend the buyer contact you or open a return request. eBay will then recommend you accept the return request. So if you use those words.......you will need to accept a return.
I don't know enough about software, but I would think once it is opened, there could be issues. I'll leave that to others.
All we get is a sliver of protection, it just depends on how willing the other party is to lie. Regarding eBay, if the buyer is not willing to lie, then yes the return period has expired and if they opened a return request you could simply decline. If they opened an Item not as described, the money back guarantee time period has expired and if not found in your favor, you could appeal and win.
I would respond to the buyer and tell them I'm so sorry that it is not compatible, the listing clearly stated "whatever it stated" and the return period has expired.

I would let the buyer know that eBay has a 30day return policy.
IF the item is in the same condition as sold, unopened or used.
Since it is past 30 days - there is no return policy.
OR you may not want to reply at all....
The buyer can try to file an NAD but it is longer than 30 days. Most likely the buyer will not be able to open a request.
Sometimes the less said the better.

OP3 years agoI think I will respond with the time frame explanation and not suggest to contact Ebay. I like the idea of not responding because messaging can lead to a lot of ugliness especially if the other side is unstable.
