Buyer Returning Wrong Item - Dings on Seller Account?
Someone close to me is also an eBay seller, who recently had a brand new account make a purchase of a sealed trading card starter deck. Around $30/free shipping.
The individual left a good review so they in turn left a good review for the buyer.
A few days later, one day shy of the return cutoff for trading cards, the person files a return claim saying the wrong item was sent even though the feedback said they enjoyed it and so on.
The package came in and felt thinner than it should be, and what was inside were junk cards from two other sets from two years before and two years after that set in ziploc bags. They didn't return ANY of the cards from the deck, the box, anything. Nothing from the original order was inside.
The person close to me who sold this is quite disappointed and is scared to contest the return due to the fact it is said this dings the seller account no matter what even if nothing was their fault and the buyer was scamming them.
Does anyone know if this is the case still? It is not right that a good seller with a solid reputation it scammed and then the person is allowed to keep getting away with it. We have since all in our group added the person to our blocked list, but I just don't think it right for them to continue getting away with it while there is a risk that the seller, doing nothing wrong but getting the entirely wrong things back, be dinged and faulted. Thank you for any help.

·2 years agoThere is NO 'contesting' once a return was started, shipped and received. Seller needs to refund within 48hrs of 'receiving' a return (regardless what it is).
If a seller is Top Rated and they allow 30 day returns (I know some trading cards are 3 days, so not sure) they can deduct up to 50% of the refund- and should attach a photo and 'report' the buyer (note that reporting will NOT show ANYONE what 'happened' to that buyer- but should enough 'reports' come in about this buyer, they can be either banned or not allowed to return anything anymore).

·2 years ago"brand new account"..."solid reputation"....is this the same person? Or is this the other person who has a "solid reputation. New seller can't have both. Sometimes, new sellers will be taken advantage of. Best for new sellers to acquire some feedback before selling anything expensive...over 10 bucks.
A seller doing a refund within eBay timeframe won't hurt the seller. Putting off the refund within the timeframe will hurt the seller...and two will hurt the seller's account.
Its not unusual to get a return that not is the same...I had a few....it goes with selling.
I refused a return which was a dark bag with something gooey in it from the post office...I contested...I lost and got charged another 20 bucks....I only sell stamps.

OP2 years agoThe new account was the buyer and the solid reputation account was a well established eBay account with years of history and 100% positive feedback 😞

·2 years agoBuyer probably knew what they could do or are doing.
Sometimes checking a buyer's feedback....track record of buying same items and have some feedback
is what I look for.
Make sure buyer gets "blocked" from purchase purchases.
