Buyer returned a completely different item on an INAD claim -case closed despite photo evidence
Summary: thepowerofsound sold a vintage collectible plush and the buyer opened a return case citing already disclosed issues, then returned a completely different item. Despite providing evidence, the case was closed against thepowerofsound, who filed an appeal and reported the buyer. shire123 advised accepting the situation and blocking the buyer. Surprisingly, thepowerofsound later received a message that their appeal was granted, restoring their faith in the platform. shire123 expressed surprise and congratulated them.
Sold a vintage collectible plush — listing was accurate, size and discoloration both disclosed. Buyer opens an INAD return with no explanation. When I ask for specifics, he cites the details already disclosed in the listing, then accuses me of "harassing" him for asking. Return gets auto-accepted, and what comes back is a completely different, unrelated item - not mine at all.
I call support with photos of the swap. During that call, the case gets closed and the buyer refunded, with a stated reason that doesn't match the timeline (claims I sat on the item 2+ days, when it had arrived about 20 minutes before the call). When I point that out, the rep switches to a different excuse that also doesn't line up with tracking.
I've filed an appeal (currently pending) and reported the buyer, who is also an active, apparently high-volume seller — which makes "honest mistake" seem unlikely. I'm certain many of us have experienced a swapped-item return like this, but I'm curious whether your appeal has ever gone anywhere once a case is already considered "Closed by Customer Support."

·1 month agoPhotos are never "proof" of anything. In this day and age photos are easily faked.
Your issue is one of the risks of ecommerce that we all accept when we sign up for ebay.
It appears you have done all you can. Report and block the buyer. Take the loss off of your taxes.
Fortunately, this situation does not arise too often for most sellers.
I know I am sort of "rolling over" and accepting the situation without fighting it. But this issue has been brought up many, many times with the same outcome. Why waste energy on it when you know the likely outcome?

OP1 month agoYou're right, very few major issues have arisen since I started 8 years ago, and they're usually so far between that they don't suck the joy out of reselling
That said, I woke up to friendly message from eBay -Your Appeal Has Been Granted! I'm slightly astonished, but pretty grateful. Faith restored haha
