Buyer return shipping....UPS vs USPS
Since returns are mostly now auto authorized, and ebay is choosing the shipping method/label, it seems it's always UPS. My understanding is ebay is splitting the return cost 50/50 with us. But, UPS is more expensive than USPS. Is there a way to get ebay to send a USPS label instead of UPS?

OP4 months agoI had a return come in today. As you can see on the screenshot, it was 12:14 my time. It is now about 12:50 and I can't do anything with it. Ebay gave me less than 30 minutes to put in an RMA and choose a label. It is now auto done with a UPS label which is more expensive than a USPS.
The email also says I have until Apr 3 to provide a label.

OP4 months agoCircling back around to this. It seems that if I catch the return right when the email alert comes in to me, Ebay lets me choose the shipping method and add an RMA number. But, if I don't catch it right away (and I don't know how much time elapses), it chooses for me and doesn't let me put in an RMA.
Any ebay mods here that can shed some light on this?

·4 months agoIt should say each time how long you have to respond. I believe it's 48 hours.
eBay does not moderate this forum, and eBay employees do not respond to specific questions like that in 99.999% of posts. We're just other buyers and sellers speaking from experience.

·4 months agoThat has never been true. eBay does not require you to respond to return requests within 2 hours in any situation. Sounds like you need to check your return settings, though, as you may have it set up to automatically approve returns and that's why you're not getting a chance to change them.

OP4 months agoI have no rules/automation setup there. RMA is turned on. I understand it has not been true, but it is. Next time it happens, I'll try to time it and get with ebay support. Also, ebay does auto authorize my returns as I'm in the automotive space.

OP6 months agoI had a new return today. It allowed me to choose between UPS and USPS for the label. It also allowed me to put in an RMA number. This one worked as it should. Was there an ebay bug that got fixed? Hmmmm.

OP7 months agoSo I called ebay help this morning about this. I have a bit more insight as to what is going on here. Since I'm automotive, I'm required by ebay to offer free returns. This is why I can't put in an RMA or choose a label. Ebay is doing it all. I remember a few months ago now, having this mysterious return policy show up with a 10ish digit number on it. I would remove it but it would just come back. It's ebay making the return policy. Fair to me? NO. But, like Amazon who does wonky stuff also, I have to live with it.

OP7 months agoMaybe I'm missing something. But ebay is auto authorizing and auto-choosing UPS. I do have that option for RMA turned on.

When I need to approve a return I get the choice of which carrier to use.

·7 months agoIt depends on the return, I assume mostly on the size, weight, and item category. I am often offered the option of FedEx or USPS when issuing a return shipping label.

That puts the return request on hold for 2 days, for you to decide either
-- to refund no return needed, or
-- to upload your own return label with insurance if needed.
