Buyer mailed back item outside the free return window with non-eBay label, appealed the case and won | Returns

A buyer opened a return on a clothing item for the reason "didn't fit." I offer free 30 day returns and provide measurements in all clothing listings, complete with photos of the measurements. The buyer did not return the item within the return window, so eBay automatically closed the case. The buyer messaged me not long after the case closed saying they dropped the item off at the post office and asked me to "hold off on the escalation." There was no tracking provided, so I assume they were not able to use an eBay shipping label. I tried to explain that eBay had closed the case, and the buyer then asked me to ship the item back to them after I got it. I again tried to help and suggest that they speak with USPS about maybe intercepting the package or something. I believe the buyer then appealed the return case somehow with the false claim that I offered a refund and didn't give it. They won the case immediately and their refund was taken out of my earnings. I called customer service and they said they would review the case again. I guess my question is should I expect anything to come of this? Has something similar happened to anyone else and what was your experience?
