Buyer Lied About Defective Item to Return It
I sold an iPad with a cracked screen, providing full details of the damage and extensive photos. Upon receipt, the buyer claimed the iPad wouldn't power on, and included a photo that showed further damage to the iPad that will reduce the value if I try to sell it again. I had to pay for the buyer to return the item and it powered on immediately, proving that the buyer lied in order to get a refund and damaged the item further in the process. I videoed the whole process of packaging up the iPad before sending it, and videoed myself opening it when I got it back so I can clearly prove not only the damage, but that the buyer lied in order to return it.
Now it's been received, my only option is to report the buyer and then refund them anyway (no option to deduct for the damage caused or recover the shipping cost), or wait for eBay to step in after three business days. I can't find any info on what happens if I just wait these three days and have eBay step in and I can't submit my photographic evidence or explanation without refunding the buyer, which I have no intention of doing without at least a deduction for the damage caused and a refund for both shipping costs paid.
Does anyone have any experience with this who can advise me what to do?

·1 year agoHi, Here in the U.S. - Letting eBay step in & settle this for you will only buy you a defect (which you dont' want) and you will be refunding anyway. I think that you may have "bite the bullet" on this one & just refund. IMHO Of-Course. Good Luck!! (J.B.)

eBay doesn't care about your photos or videos.
eBay doesnt get in to "he said / she said"
In the US, if you receive a rock back your choices are to refund in full OR allow eBay to step in.
IF you allow eBay to step in you will still pay FVFs and get a defect on your seller account.
You can report the buyer but eBay will not look at any of your "proof"
eBays MBG is for buyers and all the buyer has to say is Not As Described and they get their money back.

Refund and move on.
You can report the buyer but it won't do much good.

·1 year agoEven over there in your conflicted royal kingdom @stacey_mackenzie91 if you choose
1. to report the buyer, you can no longer deduct from the refund
-- and you'll pay the final value fees, and earn a defect for case closed without seller resolution.
Or if you choose
2. to wait for eBay to step in, they will automatically refund
-- and you'll pay the final value fees, and earn a defect for case closed without seller resolution.
Your best option is to voluntarily refund now, get your fees back, and avoid the defect. Then you can report the buyer.

·1 year agoYou should log out and back in to your account. Your asking on the USA board. You should ask on the UK board as the rules may be different.
A reason sellers should always take returns.
