Buyer Fraud
Hello all,
I sold a vintage jacket to a buyer on 11/3, and it was delivered on 11/6. The buyer requested a return on 11/6, which was automatically approved by eBay (I’m a Top Rated Seller with a 30-day return policy).
On 11/27, the buyer opened a case stating they never received a refund. That same day, eBay sided with the buyer and processed the refund.
I filed an appeal on 12/5 explaining that the buyer had never shipped the item back and no tracking movement had occurred. eBay told me the buyer claimed they had messaged me confirming the item was delivered, which was untrue. eBay later verified this and approved my appeal, reversing the refund and returning the funds to me.
Today, 12/10, the jacket was delivered back to me. Reviewing the tracking, I saw that the buyer shipped the item on 12/5—after my appeal had already been approved and the funds returned.
I’m not sure why the buyer decided to ship the jacket back at that point, but I’d appreciate input on how to proceed. The case is already closed, and while I’m inclined to contact eBay and issue the refund, the buyer was clearly in the wrong and even misrepresented information to eBay. That said, two wrongs don’t make a right, and I want to handle this appropriately.
How would you approach this situation?

Let ebay make the next move....
IF they do, then ask these questions. Right now you have the jacket back AND the money. By "inclining" to contact ebay and refund the money, that would be like telling the Traffic Cop that stopped you for speeding and was just going to give you a warning, "Warning??? NO, give me the ticket". Why do that?
Carry On.....

·9 months ago@cp_vintage I think this is likely what happened. Check the message from eBay again or even just paste the contents here (removing any personally identifying information about you or the buyer).
If not, you may still be able to just issue a refund from the order. There would be no need to contact eBay. But check the message from eBay again first.
