Buyer blatantly lied about item not being as described and requested a refund.
Buyer blatantly lied about item not being as described and requested a refund. I reluctantly agreed to give him a partial refund to cover the cost of the free shipping with the intention of relisting the item. He has not returned the item and I can not get a response from Ebay when I ask for help. The seller doesn't respond. Ebay doesn't respond when I report the buyer. I made about $2.00 on and item that sold for $35 and I don't have the item to resell.
So a buyer who blatantly lies gets away with ripping off a seller and Ebay does nothing to help. Any suggestions on how to proceed?
Frankly, I'm more angered at how Ebay has handled this than the buyer.

As a seller, don't ever expect eBay to sort out a refund transaction that a seller mishandled.
EBay mainly only sorts out problems for buyers when a seller does them wrong.

·3 years agoHappens thousands upon thousands of times a day. The way you proceed is report your buyer, take your beating and move on to the next fire like all the rest of us.
Next time refund only upon return of the item.

OP3 years agoSeriously? That's too funny. At this point, I'm most likely done selling on Ebay so it doesn't matter.

·3 years agoYes, Seriously...Read the feedback misuse policy it clearly states
Any misuse of feedback is not allowed. Feedback comments should match the positive or negative rating that was given in both buyer and seller feedback. For example, a negative comment should not be left with a positive rating.

Yes sadly if a buyer starts a NAD (not as described) return, it doesn't matter how ridiculous the reason, like no board and box included, as long as he checks off "not as described" ebay will side with the buyer.
So it's always better off just accepting the return.
You'll be out shipping both ways but at least you'll get your item back.
If you accept the return and the buyer fails to send the item back (which happens a lot)
there will be no refund and you will not be charged for the unused return label.
Just chalk it up as a learning experience.
I hope this one incident doesn't make you give up on ebay.

·3 years agoIt's not funny, the buyer can report it and get the comment removed, they keep the positive and you get a policy violation.
When a buyer files an INAD and you offer a partial refund, you're telling Ebay and the buyer they can keep the item.
If you wanted it returned, you should have accepted the return, provided a shipping label, then give a full refund when it was returned.

OP3 years agoLike I said, it's my bad for not understanding the partial refund rules. A full refund was never going to happen because I shipped it to him free so I wasn't going to pay for return shipping, too. Especially when it was a scam.
As for a policy violation, I'll take the hit. If it helps some other seller avoid dealing with this garbage, it's well worth it.
I'm probably done selling on Ebay, anyways. It may not look like it based on my number of reviews, but I first sold on Ebay back in the late 90's. ***Nostalgia Alert*** Back then, I would wait for the buyer's personal check to arrive in the mail and then ship out the item. Most times the buyers would send a follow up Thank You note. The entire process took a couple of weeks. The good old days.

If you wanted the item back, you needed to enthusiastically and proactively accept the dispute provide a full refund and also pay for the return shipping.
He has not returned the item
And he won't, until you accept the dispute and give a full refund and pay for return shipping.
I can not get a response from Ebay when I ask for help
There is nothing eBay will do for you.
Ebay doesn't respond when I report the buyer
eBay will eventually respond by finding in favor of the buyer and refunding the rest of his money and giving you a defect.

·3 years agoWhen a buyer opens a Not As Described case ebay issues a return label, the cost of the return label is usually deducted from your funds pending or available.
When you receive the item back , then you refund not before..
If you refund even a partial refund before the item is returned then you are telling the buyer they can keep the item and the case closes.
They buyer is under no obligation to send it back and ebay can't help since the case closed when a refund was issued.

·3 years agoIt sounds like you did the return "wrong"....
(out of sequence)
you issue the refund AFTER you approve the return and get the item back
you issue a 'partial' refund to end the dispute and let the buyer keep the item....
not before.....savvy buyers know this and take full advantage of your trustworthiness......
"...If you've refunded already, there's no incentive for the buyer to return it..."

·3 years agoI'm confused. Did you refund before getting the item back? If so, then your out. Your not charged if they never used the return label.

OP3 years agoUnfortunately, I did the refund before I received the item back. It was the first time I used the partial refund policy and I just wanted this guy to stop bugging me. I didn't realize the refund would be processed immediately. My bad for not doing things correctly.
But I'm very upset that Ebay would even allow him to request a refund based on the item not being as described because I stated in the listing in all caps that the board and box were not included. His complaint was there was no board and box included.
I haven't sold for a few years. It seems it's more of a market place for businesses and not a place to sell one offs or unique items.

Sorry that this happened to you, but it seems that you are just out the money refunded (partial). If returned you would still be out that return shipping money. You have some of the money for the item. Buyer has the item. I do not see the problem
Have not had a INAD return in quite some time, but last time I did, right next to the option for "Partial refund" it very clearly stated that the buyer would keep the item if they accepted that option that was chosen by the seller.

I do not see the problem. (other than the false return request reason). This is the beat outcome that you could hope for. After that false return request you were going to pay the shipping either way.

·3 years agoWhen you choose the partial refund option, the buyer keeps the item.
And that means @buyidev that you do not expect to get your item back.

Next time... approve the Return (which generates the buyer a return shipping label) and never refund until you get the item back. If you've refunded already, there's no incentive for the buyer to return it. Hope your buyer is a stand up guy and will return it with the label you paid for... if your buyer even used the partial refund for a label. Bummer...
