Buyer asking for my address to return an item to avoid using an ebay return label
Hello all,
I have very few returns and today I had a buyer asking to return an item and does not want to use an ebay label for the return. They say it is to expensive and are asking for my address to return the item. Long time seller here, but this is a new one for me. Any help would be wonderful!

·8 months agoThe buyer is taking the risk here. They should already have your address...wasnt your "ship from" address on the initial shipping label?

·8 months ago2 questions:
1.) is your return address the same 'return address' as is shown on the original shipping label?
2.) How in the world is a necklace 'too large' to ship back??

·8 months agoHave a feeling that the "too large" description was referring to the size of the necklace itself, not that it was too large to send back.
There are some necklaces that are so "bulky", for lack of a better word, that they look ridiculous on a small person.

·8 months agoDid they open an official return request? Even if you're willing to let them purchase their own label, I'd make sure there's a proper return request filed.

OP8 months agoHello,
They asked to return the item because it was to large for them. It is a necklace. I messaged them to let them know that was not a problem and just open a return request in ebay. They just messaged me back stating that the price was to high with ebay to return the item and asked for my address to send it themselves. I guess my concern is how is that handled with ebay. Thank you so much.

·8 months agoI don't recall if they have visibility of your return address through the case, but they should either be able to add their own tracking number (although I've heard it may not be an option anymore), or just send it back and contact eBay with the tracking number if needed. Honestly, they're taking most of the risk here, since if it's not proven to be returned you don't have to issue a refund.

OP8 months agoThank you for your insight. I hope ebay messages lets me send my address. I know it is funny about disclosing phone numbers and personal information.

·8 months agoYou have a return policy so if the buyer opens a return request, they have the option of using the label sent to them or they can purchase their own label. (If ebay sends a label, they aren't charged for it unless it's used.)

OP8 months agoI did explain that to them, so far they have not opened a return. I will just wait and see.
Thank you for your help.

·8 months agoHi @notredamemom2013
You can tell them they will see your address on the shipping label they’ll receive after filing a return request.
They are free to purchase their own label at that point. They will have your address.

·8 months agoIf you've explained to them that the buyer pays no postage if he/she opens an NAD request, and they've not replied or opened the case, I guess your only option is to wait and see what happens next since the ball is now in their court.

·8 months agoIf the buyer opened an item not as described case, why would the buyer be the one needing to pay for the return shipping label?
Or is this a "remorse" return?
