Am I Allowed to Deduct My Original Shipping Cost from Refund? I sold an item with free shipping and the buyer wants to return it because he made a mistake. He says he thought he ordered an XS but the item he ordered was an XXL and it clearly stated this in the listing, title, details and description ALL stated the correct size. I would not be asking this if he ordered the correct size it just didn't fit but he clearly did not READ the listing and I shouldn't have to absorb the original shipping...

I'm doing a return now the buyer ordered the wrong item. I believe eBay is charging the buyer for the return label. Ebay give me the option to refund the original shipping. But I'm so afraid of negative feedback I'll probably take the loss and refund the original shipping.

I beg to differ from the previous two replies. It depends on what listing of yours the return was filed. I see you have some listings with free shipping, and some listings with a shipping charge. You are only allowed to deduct what your shipping charge is for remorse returns. You can only deduct this for SNAD returns if the item came back damaged or in a different condition as you sent it out. Ebay will be watching more closely when you do the latter. I'm not entirely sure if you are allowed to deduct this if the SNAD was false and you want to contest it. Maybe @kyle@ebay can chime in here and let us know. I think it depends if you have free returns or not. Someone else stated here that you have no returns set. I'm not seeing that when I quickly saw one of your listings. I see that you accept returns with buyer pays return shipping. So I guess it depends on what listing you are referring to.

If you deduct shipping from items sent with free shipping then the shipping wasn't free. That would be false advertising, or free shipping with conditions.

Since you have free shipping, you cannot deduct for shipping.

If he returns because of his mistake, it is a remorse return, and he should pay to ship it back.

If he uses Not As Described. You will pay return shipping also.
