Advice needed - Return to sender / cannot refund purchase price only
I am the seller, and I want to refund my buyer the original purchase price - not shipping. Here is a quick summary:
Buyer paid and I shipped to the address provided with payment.
Buyer opened up a request for item not received.
Buyer didn't receive it because buyer provided an incorrect address
USPS tracking says, "addressee unknown, return to sender processed."
I uploaded tracking information in the request (don't think it is a dispute.)
My item has been returned to me.
I want to refund the purchase price (not shipping) but Ebay won't let me. It says that a request is opened for the item. If I try to refund from the request, it wants to refund the ENTIRE amount and I just want to refund purchase price since the buyer did not provide a valid address.
I have asked the buyer to close the request so that I can do the partial refund, but have not head back from the buyer in over a week.
Thoughts on what I should do? Leave it open? Message the buyer again? What would happen if I ask Ebay to step in? I am hesitant to do that even though I did nothing wrong.

·2 years agoSince you uploaded the tracking number in the request and the item couldn't be delivered because the address was correct, ebay should rule in your favor. After that you can send a partial refund using the 'send refund' button. You can't do a partial refund within the request.

OP2 years agoSo I should ask Ebay to step in on the dispute tab?
Scares me a bit that it will get closed in the buyers favor even though tracking is uploaded since it doesn't show "delivered."

·2 years agoIf it shows delivered there is no need to ask them to step in, in your case, I would probably send a message to eBay cs via one of their social media accounts on Facebook, instagram or X to explain the situation. That way it isn’t just bots looking at the claim.
