A who-dun-it! is the buyer or UPS to blame for missing parts?
Had a buyer with zero feedback purchase a $150 item. NINE DAYS after being delivered, I get a notification that they filed a “did not receive†claim. When I read the claim, they state “My package arrived on time, undamaged and untampered. But it’s missing a piece.â€
There’s zero chance as I personally packed the box and I know for a fact it had all the pieces. I remembered the debate I had with myself of where to place them in the box. Weird that she states it was “untamperedâ€â€¦
I ask buyer to send photos. Of course they don’t know how to through ebay, so I tell them to email me the photos. They send me a photo of “exactly how they received the item being pulled from the boxâ€. The item has all the original bubble wrap except It’s missing bubble wrap on 2 of the 4 ends and packing paper that was used on 1 of the 2 sides . Either the box was tampered with or she’s trying to pull something.
She then says “"Can you possibly look around and see if you can locate the missing piece? I really want to keep the warmer as mine quit and I was very excited to find another one. I would just take one from my old one, but they’re different colors. "
Obviously the false “not delivered†claim will close when it auto detects that it’s been delivered, but no doubt she will then file a return. But… this woman’s trying to pull something, isn’t she? No tampering to package but magically missing piece and bubble wrap?
I’m not sure if I should try to file a claim with UPS or if that’s a losing battle and I need to just file a report & fight it against this woman? I have a feeling someone needed a replacement part on a piece of equipment that you can’t find for cheap anymore.

Honestly I feel like something is up with this because that screams "Tampered with" to me. Not pointing fingers here because ANYONE handling the package could have tampered with it too
You could file a claim with UPS. Worst case they say no, otherwise you get something out of it. I can't tell you what the odds are because this is an insurance claim, so UPS has a LOT to consider with their involvement in shipping
The item not received claim can be closed in your favor when you upload the tracking number for the item. I do not think it will auto close, unless eBay changed things
You can block the buyer if you want to: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/resolving-buyer-issues/blocking-buyer-ebay?id=4082

and muddle through an INR destined to fail, an unnecessary risk.

OP3 years agoSo if this is UPS, have you ever tried to file a claim regarding an item missing from a package that apparently has no damage? I have a feeling they’ll say to kick rocks.
