Updated app, now can't upload photos
Yesterday I updated the eBay app on my Android. Today I sat down to do some listings, and when I attempt to 'upload photos from mobile', the app on my phone will only access 'cloud media app.'
I am at a total loss here. I can click on albums, but it won't show them all (only shows 4). At the very top of the screen it now says, "This app can only access the photos you select."
Before today, I have never seen this 'cloud media app' option. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? I have gone into every single setting that I can find. In my eBay app settings, I have it set to access all photos on my phone. Not sure what else to do.

·1 year agoYep. no images will upload from any source. Says failed upload on every photo type. Absurd.

·1 year agoI've been calling ebay about this issue since yesterday morning. It seems when the updates to app went into place, it knocked out our ability to grab photo's from mobile upload although they won't report that it seems. I've put in a few tickets for it. Nothing yet. Mine still won't upload. Obviously, coders or website people didn't check their work before going live with things. It happens a lot. Not just with ebay but with many coders or website designers. Work should be checked BEFORE going live. Lots of lost money for ebay and for sellers with these mistakes. If they told agents about it or sent an email to sellers on it, it would save time and trouble. I feel bad for the agents, they try to help but it isn't us, it is the software issues and mistakes on their end. Hopefully someone will wake up and try to fix it. I feel your pain. 😞

·1 year agoIn case this is any sort of solution for anyone landing here. I've had this for weeks, could only view 4 albums and couldn't access any cloud other than view a tick box. Cleared cache, reinstalled app, etc. Had help desk on, their solution was to use desktop if app wasn't working. I did go on to desktop version, went through setting up item for sale, and when adding photos, clicked 3 dots and unticked cloud storage, but then finally when selected "browse" got access to phone albums. Also deleted an old draft which may have stuck. Something righted a wrong, and when I went back to the app I was then able to "browse" to phone albums.

·1 year agoSo frustrating! Latest eBay app broke this... This significantly affected my workflow in a negative manner. Any word?

Check your apps. Mine is FINALLY 'fixed' as of this morning! Granted, there are more steps to take to get to what I want than before, but at least I can get to them now!
@eBay If it isn't broken, PLEASE don't fix it! You are losing money by making sellers jump through hoops and take more steps to list items. They will find alternate marketplaces to list through. Not a threat, just a statement of fact.

·1 year ago@heirloomangel Thanks for the update. I reinstalled & so far it's working. Fingers crossed this continues as it's been such an inconvenience & lile you say- forced sellers to use other platforms.

·1 year agoThanks for the update @heirloomangel . I meant to ask you about this yesterday - I was hopeful this week's app update would have a fix for it.

·1 year agoUnfortunately the issue is not fixed for me and as you can see many others still. I ensured I'm on the newest Android eBay app. Still I can only select "Cloud Media", many Albums are not visible, and unable to select my Gallery app.
I should note: when this issue first occured I updated both an Android OS update and the eBay. Perhaps the newest Android app caused a conflicting issue with eBay? Or maybe just a coincidence, and solely the eBay app is to blame.

·1 year agoUPDATE: I solved it. I uninstalled the eBay app and install the latest 6.196.0.2 (Feb 18) version from apkmirror. For whatever reason, the playstore did not have nor show any available updates as I was on an older version.
NOTE: From a security point of view, I do not recommend installing apps that are not from the Android Playstore. However, apkmirror has a positive reputation overall.

OP1 year agoSTILL having this issue! Has anyone else had this resolved?
Again - is anyone from eBay actually looking at these threads?

·1 year agoI've had this happen serval times.
1. Go to settings
2. Select Apps
3. Click 3 dots in upper right hand corner
4. **bleep** reset app permissions (this will reset every app by the way)
5. Allow all pictures in app again.
6. Click media app button and there should be an option for your Google photos now
Select Google photos and it should load all the albums again

OP1 year ago@carnage717 While I appreciate the suggestion, there is no way I'm doing that. First, I just want to be able to choose from my all of my albums (I personally don't use Google photos). Second, I'm not about to have to go into every other app and reset the permissions because of a glitch in the eBay app.
I'll wait for the update that solves the issue.

·1 year agoIf you have not already done so, please shake your device while using the app and that will open a screen for you to file a tech report. The more users reporting, the more attention it will get from eBay.

·1 year agoNo prob @heirloomangel . eBay typically releases app updates every Monday. You'll probably have to live with this for the next week at least, but hopefully eBay will have a fix built in to next week's update. 🤞
In the meantime, if others run into this problem they should "shake to report." And you can always access eBay from a web browser on your device to upload pics if the app is temporarily problematic.

·1 year agoSame problem. Two days ago everything was working fine. Today I went to process my next batch of listings and can't access my gallery to upload photos. It only shows a link for cloud media app. This needs to get fixed ASAP. I even went to the desktop site to see if I could upload photos there and it wouldn't let me, referring me back to the Ebay app.

·1 year agoI am having the exact same issue. I have tried everything. I generally think it as nothing to do with ebay but to do with android itself. Its an update that seems to remove access to your old photos but send them to a cloud access only storage without your permission.
heirloomangel
OP1 year ago@swiftalepreloved88 I disagree. If that were the case, it would be that way across all apps, and it isn't.
Every other app that allows photos to be uploaded works just as it should.

This did not work for me either. I am so frustrated, as it only started a few days ago with the app update. 😑

This is posted in the "report tech issues" thread. Does anyone from tech actually LOOK at the thread? Just curious. If I need to put an actual complaint/ticket in, I will be more than happy to do so.

·1 year agoTried uninstall, re-installing, and giving full permissions it on several phones. This did not work for us. Still only allowing us to select "Cloud media app" from the drop down that used to have Google Photos, Gallery, etc..

·1 year agoThis fix of uninstall reinstall clearing cache cookies etc doesn't work for most unfortunately. It's an ongoing issue for iPhone & android users even when operating OS8 or above. I & multiple others have started threads tagging ebay & also messaged directly including screenshots. No one has replied. What happens is Ebay deny & stall you then finally admit there's a problem. This billion $ company should have the best tech & a smooth app. It does not. I can also only access 4 albums like so many others. Begore the update there was a browse button on the app listing so you could go into certain galleries/ albums. That tool has gone. It's caused such inconvenience I have used a different platform lile thousands of other sellers. Ebay just point blank refuse to announce that they've caused a problem with the latest update. I wish they'd just leave things alone. Uninstall reinstall etc simply doesn't work. I'm on Samsung OS 14 so I'm.way anoice the required 10 but I can't do any listijgs. Ebay will lose fees until they fix & that often takes 6 weeks or more. Kat@ebay Any solution or at least an admission that there's still a problem ? elizabeth@ebay

OP1 year ago@njluxe I'm also on Android os14. Another platform I was on years ago used to do this same darn thing all the time! They drop LIVE code, KNOW full well there is an issue, but send everyone on the 'clear cookies/cache, uninstall, reinstall, reset permissions' goose chase. I'm not doing it. I KNOW this is an app issue.
I did put an actual ticket in to tech about this, but who knows how long it will take them. They should test this stuff on a group who volunteer to check out new updates (like beta testers) before dropping this junk. Just my opinion though, and we all know what those are like. 😂

·1 year agoTotally agree. They are buying time. The whole point of using the app is it's supposed to be quicker ! I will keep an eye on this thread. Thanks for replying 😃
anotherchanceshoppe
·1 year agoAgree! Ebay is well known for dropping code in LIVE instead of trying it in the background first. I was one of he people that would try all sites and links out before my company (not ebay) went live on anything. It saved the company a ton of time and money and debugged everything before it went live. It saves the sellers a lot of time, effort, and money. I wish ebay would hire a beta tester or at least one person to coordinate the software and design people to work in conjunction with the agents or even post a simple email on the issues. (head shake) - they just pretend it is us.......leaving the customer service people out in the cold until we as sellers debug their mistakes for them. They should pay us as beta testers.

·1 year agoHi @acworthcraig @heirloomangel @vaiderlaceparts . The easiest way to fix this is to uninstall the app, reinstall and accept the photo permissions when it pops up. I had a friend on Android test and this worked.
Let me know if it fixes things for you.

OP1 year ago@wastingtime101 I will try that and let you know. Thank you.

·1 year agoWe are having the exact same problem. This is the first thread I have found that describes it accurately. This change just started two days ago-ish for us. eBay needs to fix this! We are hoping this will get read if enough people complain. With their new update it is impossible for us to add older pictures from our phone gallery. The "Cloud mobile app" option does not allow us to access the photos we need. It also is very frustrating to add even recently taken photos without doing so from "Google Photos" or preferably our Samsung phones' "Gallery". Without being able to choose Gallery or Google Photos like we used to be able to do 4+ days ago (in this current update) every time we scroll up slightly too far while adding photos we have to go back and choose all of the 24 pictures over again. It also has no zoom feature to see the pictures better before choosing the 24. eBay help us!

·1 year agoI'm also having this issue. I list from an android device and can no longer access the "Google Photos" app to add my pictures to a listing. I assigned Google photos as my cloud media app which is somewhat of a fix but my photos are out of order. I much prefer to open the photos app externally since they show in the order I took them in. If eBay support sees this, I attached a screenshot below. There used to be an option to access your photo apps after clicking the circled icon on the top right. (Screenshot taken from phone that has older version of eBay)
