Unable to edit the HTML section on listings
I am unable to edit the HTML box on my listings. within a second or two of accessing that section, the browser refreshes and bounces out. I've tried editing the listing on another computer, and the same problem occurs.
The problem showed up yesterday and still is occurring today.
Any idea when this will be remedied?
PS. Could the powers-that-be please get rid of the gratuitous warning box that shows up every time as an extra step to click through when we go to edit the HTML language of our listings? Yes, we are sure we want to be there.

·3 years agoAnyone got any luck with someone from eBay acknowledging there is a technical issue with the listing tool yet? everywhere I turn CS acts like it's the first time they hear about it, even though a bunch of sellers on the forum confirmed they complained, and there are so many posts on the forum about it. The problem is not listed in System Status either, like is does not exist outside our minds!
It's going on 3 weeks now for me, and it drives me crazy, I dread listing time!

·3 years ago@bestdealinparts I called CS and had ticket made the day I first posted, weekend came and went still had the issue, called again and had them make another ticket (apparently they didn't have one on my account for the last time) - 2 days later the issue on my account was fixed haven't had it since.

·3 years agoGoing on two weeks now, and the listing tool is still the same mess! What would have taken me 5 minutes, took more than 30 of solving and working around glitches, just to list ONE item, @devon@ebay !!!!?

·3 years agoSame problem here, nearly impossible to list and TOTALLY impossible to edit once you get listed. Obviously everyone at eBay is busy counting the money and paying no attention to seller issues. I've been selling for 20+ years and they've never screwed it up this badly before that I can recall.

I'm sorry to say that another Chatbot already beat you to this thread with the same info. Please thank your chat AI language model for the input, but, I recommend you retrain your bot to look at the entire thread before posting an identical answer.

·3 years agoThis morning 1 made 2 brand new listings via "Create Listing" using my template... again, as the other day, didn't have any issues with the listing tool refreshing and whipping everything out in HTML Mode.
However... as always with ebay, a new week (or day it seems lately) provides a glorious new glitch upon us. This one however doesn't affect anything really. In the seller hub under Listings, under "Current Price" column, you should have a link under each price that says "Research Price" - well the new glitch is, that link is missing from the listings I created this morning. @devon@ebay

·3 years agoI've been having the same issue over the past couple days too myself, I tried to contact Ebay today and they aren't allowing me to contact them anymore and automated help is my only option which tells me there could be technical problems and that's it.
For me i'm using the latest version of Google Chrome on Windows 11.
It makes it really hard to list stuff when it does remember what I typed very often and have to type everything in about 30 seconds or it refreshes it and goes back to what I sued to have there.
if this continues listing on Ebay may not be an option because I don't have hours to list items.
thanks

·3 years agoyup and like I said yesterday to devon... I opened a ticket last week, so either the CS rep can't open a ticket right or they are lying.

·3 years agoI can report the issue still persists. As I originally reported "sell similar" still a good work around, however only when you I use a very old active listing. It will now NOT work as "sell similar" off of the newly constructed one .. need to go back to the original old listing to do it.
Absolute **bleep** w/ the "tickets" .. I put in a ticket on Saturday. This is a reproducible error for many .. and their rep's not even aware of it? Perhaps a real ticket solution and not the convoluted customer service jerk around. As usual sellers are expendable.
nuclearomen
·3 years ago@bluewater-vintage that's exactly why I asked Devon if someone could just open a site wide ticket so we move on and get this crud fixed already... causing a lot of disruptions, not just listing, but look at your PL stats and see them fall cause not listing regularly as would.

·3 years agoI too can report that this issue is ongoing. I have contacted ebay again, this time via the written chat to retain a record of what was said. The reference for my chat was 1-462043362261 if using that will help anyone else report it. They did not indicate that a site wide ticket has been opened, but the agent did acknowledge that she could see multiple reports, all of my reports, and the postings on the Share EBay Technical Issues. And could see what it was doing in the draft I'd saving with problems. Still no very hopeful this will be resolved soon, but we have to keep trying. And I wish all the folks chiming in with suggestions like use another browser, delete cache & cookies, etc etc would read the existing posts so they would know that we've all tried that and nothing works!

OP3 years agoDear Everyone,
So I just opened a ticket with eBay on this issue. The person who assisted me said they didn't have any other reports on this issue and this was the first he had heard of it. Odd. But he also said that the more people who report and open tickets on an issue, the faster it will get solved.
So for all you similarly frustrated Sellers unable to use the HTML editing tool, go open a ticket.

·3 years ago***Update - that was short lived - unable to duplicate. I can not even edit the text within the description box without a reload (not even in html mode) ***
So my work around is to list the item, making it active on eBay. Going to the item, revise item, and the HTML editor works.
I will note that upon trying to list the item I had to:

OP3 years agoUnfortunately for me, trying this work around isn't successful. I'm unable to edit the HTML language of live listings.
I've had inconsistent success editing the HTML when starting with a "sell similar" listing (about 50/50 the screen will abruptly refresh and erase my progress), but no success at all if attempting to create a listing from scratch using a template.

·3 years agoWe are having this issue as well. I tried "sell similar" and no luck, different browsers, differnt PCs cleared cookies...etc.. . I will most likely edit all the ebay fields and copy/paste my html last in hopes to beat the refresh.

·3 years agoAfter not creating new listings since mid last week, I figured I'd give it a try today and see what happens. I was able to create a new listing (using my template) like normal and fill in all needed blanks I'd normally do in specifics and use the HTML mode, etc.. with no issues or page refreshing on me and wiping everything I did out.... Just make a post and say... is the issue fixed? Idk.... did they get to my ticket? Idk... just saying.

·3 years agoI still have the same problem on 11th March :o( Come on Ebay sort out your problem!
nuclearomen
·3 years agonope... I used the HTML once for a new listing yesterday and as said worked as should, no issues or refreshes, everything else that's "new" listings are just listings I ended and relisted via "Sell Similar" and thus done nothing to the description field or had to access HTML mode. ATM brand new listings here aren't going to be wide this week while I sort through older listings that need to be ended and relisted and enter quantity into those listings currently have zero (restocks). Pick up with brand new listings again next week but majority of brand new listings won't go back to normal listing routine till towards end of the month where a lot of new stuff will be coming in that will list right away. Otherwise, I haven't had any issues with ending and then using "Sell Similar" to relist those listings I ended (doing a few each day right now).

·3 years agoIt sounds like you're experiencing a technical issue with your listing editor, which is causing the browser to refresh and bounce out when trying to edit the HTML box. This could be due to a problem with the platform, browser, or internet connection. Here are some steps that you can take to try and resolve the issue:
Regarding the warning box that shows up every time when you go to edit the HTML language of your listings, unfortunately, I don't have control over the platform's design or user interface. You can try providing feedback to the platform's customer support team or submitting a feature request to eliminate the warning box.

I had to chuckle over this. I have a feeling we're going to see a lot more implementations of ChatGPT from posters unknown to our community. Of course, the ChatBot will be pretty accurate in creating simple instructions to general questions, such as this was, but the technical forum is not the place to post such a generalized response.
This poster has responded to three questions, and all of the answers are uncannily in the same voice as ChatGPT. Perhaps it's just coincidence.

·3 years ago@bluewater-vintage I tried that...the issue when first happened I was trying to revise a listing... it just kept refreshing. I finally just backed out, had a new item to list so I went to "Create Listing" and made listing for the new item... that worked fine as should. Listed that then went back to the other listing to try revise again thinking that weird refreshing was maybe a glitch that cleared out. Nope, still did it. I Ended that listing, went to create entire new listing for it via "sell Similar" and was getting the same thing. I tried creating new listing without the "Sell Similar" nope, same thing. That's when I saved it as draft and called ebay CS had a ticket made. I listed that draft but couldn't use the html I had to fill in info with plain text mode using my template....technically, as you fill in the plain text, ebay will auto create the HTML for it, just that every time I try to access the HTML mode the page refreshes. I suspect this glitch is affecting everyone bit differently when trying to edit different sections of listing tool...at least that seems to be atm.
bluewater-vintage
·3 years agoMake sure you're clicking "sell similar" from an active listing that was already up (say a few days or a week ago). Unless I misunderstand you it sounds like you used "sell similar" from the ended listing that you had the problem with. I also could not do that. It must be a listing that was working prior to the introduction of the bug. Apparently the old listings did not dynamically change but have kept their coding so "sell similar" simply copies it up.
Please try that and report back.
nuclearomen
·3 years agoi did...but that was because I wasn't aware at the time this was some big issue happening site wide. I ended the listing (that was created a year ago) after couldn't get it to stop refreshing on me, and then tried "sell Similar" from the ended listing (like I'd normally do if I end something and relist is and don't create a entire new listing from scratch (template).
I can't try anything new right now... I have tons of stuff I haven't listed yet, but I don't have the photos for any of them. I take photos at night so won't be doing that til tonight sometime (usually pretty late 11pm-1am). I could try it with listing need end and relist but then I'm not changing anything in the listing, it's just copy and list no edits.

·3 years agoI did a little poking around with workflows for create, sell like, resume draft, create draft, and even revise listing.
All roads led to the same root method (some after a redirect): lstng?draftId=XXX
The only difference I could see was mode=ReviseItem vs. mode=SellLikeItem vs. mode=AddItem
It looks like a draft is created for every action I tried. If there is a bug in the method 'Create(Draft)' it could lead to various issues all over the place with that being a shared step in every workflow.
Just an observation and conjecture.

First thanks to wastingtime101 for alerting me to this thread. I have found a Workaround! at least in my case. I have also indicated this in my other thread. If you go to either an active listing or a draft that was created PRIOR to the bug (probably 48hrs) simply click "sell similar". In that listing make your changes including the HTML and it will work as intended, doesn't refresh. A little more work, remove photos, change title, etc . but right now a viable work around. Changing the category will reset most of the middle part of the form.
This is working for me. They need to fix this soon.
Regards, to all.

·3 years agoyes idk exactly when, month ago maybe?...but have seen things stored in the listing tool - things like UPC - that never use to store prior, you don't have to type anything, just click the field and everything you have entered in that field since clearing cookies will come up on drop down list.
Not saying it isn't cookie related issue, but if you cleared your cookies (several times) and the page is still refreshing what else can you do aside from waiting on ebay to fix the issue that causing it in the listing tool coding?
There is a workaround but it will be pain in you know what. Go and edit template for the item your listing (filling in the info for that particular item), then save then go to create new listing and select that template...you should be able to list that way, you can fill in specifics for that item as well even add photos from the template...but then you need to go revise the entire template for the next item you list and repeat....that's a lot of work just to list.
chris13
·3 years agoWorkarounds may not exist.
Users are reporting many inconsistencies related to templates/drafts and listing creation. Some cannot create any, others can only edit old ones. Others report only new ones work. Clearing cookies wont prevent cookie poisoning, that would only remove an already poisoned cookie.
Cookies are used throughout the form-based listing tools, I suspect. I too am avoiding changes while we wait.
You are wise to assume a bug fix wont be arriving on a holiday weekend.
nuclearomen
·3 years agoupdating template doesn't work, already tried that. Clearing cookies doesn't work, everyone has tried that. Using different browser doesn't work, it's been tried.
CS ticket was suppose to be 24-48 hrs - nothing has been done, as of last night I got same results. It's the weekend so you know nothing will be done til Monday earliest. Not listing til they fix the listing tool. There are some others who have reported this happening without even selecting the "Show All Options" for HTML mode... some reported it happens when they go the shipping section of listing tool. So it's seemingly random. Not happening to everyone. And not happening only when trying to access the HTML portion of description.

·3 years agoTwo behaviors that stand out from troubleshooting after the latest code changes. They may point to a set of cookie driven 'features' that on the surface seem unrelated but share common coding methods.
a) User Bluewatervintage reported HTML pasting works successfully for editing templates but not new listings (the templates may be ones created prior to code changes)
b) User digidude66 trapped a reproducible cookie error from editing templates created before the code changes.
"Cookie 'DS2' has been rejected because it is already expired"

Is there a site wide ticket on this one yet so we can advise sellers of the ticket number to reference when contacting CS?
Tagging some of the posters from other threads so they can keep track of replies here:
@im_just_a_reseller @mokelbe @bluewater-vintage
Separate from this specific issue, Devon, I'd like to strenuously express my agreement with those who want to get rid of the "are you sure" and multiple clicks to switch to HTML. Such a time waster (in a bad way).

·3 years agoI don't see that they have posted a ticket. One person in another thread said that they were able to save a draft that someone actually could look at and see what was happening at ebay so MAYBE they will pay attention. I spoke to 2 people yesterday that both said they were putting in a ticket, but those folks, while very nice, just didn't seem to understand the issue. I saw in one place that they had updated the listing tool so maybe that is where the bug came from, but it doesn't seem to be site wide which is also very odd. But an awful lot of people seem to be having the same problem.
nuclearomen
·3 years agothat was me, and they didn't get to the ticket... or at least they didn't fix anything, I listed that draft I couldn't use the HTML so I just filled in the needed info in plain text
devon@ebay
Hey @wastingtime101! I just did a check this morning of open tickets and I did not see any that matched the issue that is being shared here and the other threads you shared. I will keep my eye out to see if one opens up later today but in the meantime I will be sure to have this reported on my end.
nuclearomen
·3 years ago@devon@ebay that would be impossible since I opened a ticket last week and so have others since me through the weekend. Is there any way can check my account specifically for open ticket? Or do I have call again since sounds like CS reps can't even open tickets correctly.
devon@ebay
Hey @nuclearomen! I will continue to look throughout today and this week to see if there are any tickets that open up for this issue. In this case I can only look into issues that are showing as sitewide alerts and would not be able to share any account specific tickets here.
nuclearomen
·3 years ago@devon@ebay OK, understand, but then how about someone opening a site side ticket so this can get resolved and people can list items again? I haven't listed anything new since last week because of the issue, everything I have listed is just listings i ended and did "Sell Similar" where no edits needed to be done, just selected "List Item"
devon@ebay
@nuclearomen I understand this needing to be resolved as soon as possible and I did report it on my end this morning. If there are updates to share on the report I will be sure to let you know.

·3 years agoIt also happens when I edit the weight and package dimensions in the shipping area....the page refreshes right afterwards and my edits are gone. I didn't even have the HTML option open at the time, and it has happened twice now. Definitely some buggy stuff going on with your dev team, eBay!
nuclearomen
·3 years agoyes, I had it happen also when didn't even get to select HTML mode... usually it happens after the pop up comes up and select "show More Options" on that popup, after that should see the right side link for HTML turn to check box, if you happen to get that far, once check that box, it refreshes don't even get a chance to edit the HTML.

·3 years agoI'm having the same problem, using Chrome on a Mac. Just started for me today. Sometimes I can get it to save once I'm in the HTML panel by quickly scrolling down and clicking "save for later" but not always.
I depend on HTML for my descriptions. So I'm stuck until they fix this.
PS: I also agree...can we PLEASE get rid of that extra "are you sure?" popup?
nuclearomen
·3 years agosame for me, it started 3 days ago when i went into listing to revise/update description...couldn't get HTML mode to work, just refreshes the page and goes back to normal text. I ended that listing and went to relist it last night, same thing....called ebay for ticket for tech support.
It's not browser or cookies, it's a ebay glitch, they revised the listing tool this past week so something on their end.
