Status Code 500, Store > Store Categories Creation Page
Store Categories Creation page loads the following page:
"It’s not you. It’s us.
Our server is down, but we’ll have things back to normal soon. If you still need help, visit our help pages."
I've cleared cache.
I've hard reloaded the page.
I've tried different browsers.
I've tried incognito / private window
Nothing changes this.
For reference this is the page im talking about. The Category Creation page....
Not just looking at my store and seeing the categories on the side.
Either one of the below paths bring up a status 500 page. Not the category management page

·11 months agoI am trying to setup a new store front and have paid the money they requested.
I get and email that my bank account has changed, they took my money, that doesn't seem to make it work.
I have taken all the necessary steps to be able create new categories and it fails every time I have tried and I have tried many many times.
I always get the same response.
Our server is down, but we’ll have things back to normal soon. If you still need help, visit our help pages.

·11 months agoLooks like this has been going on about a week and only brand new store subscribers are impacted which is why sellers with established stores cannot replicate the problem. Anybody unable to access this page:
https://www.ebay.com/sh/str/category
File a tech report - it's fast and easy and eBay does review these reports. The more people reporting, the higher priority the issue will get in the fix queue.
Click the ? icon on the bottom right corner of almost any eBay page and that will trigger the option to file a tech report, submit feedback to eBay, and more. Screenshots here.
Tagging sellers I've seen reporting the problem:

I appreciate the suggestion.
I have filed atleast 4 different tech reports now. Even one linking to this thread. So hopefully maybe it is getting worked on. Fingers crossed

·11 months agoI'm sure it is being worked on by now @thecollectorswebb . A lot of fixes take some time and it can take a bunch of reports before eBay picks up on the problem. The more people reporting, the higher it'll go up the fix list. Hopefully you'll see it working by the end of the week.

·11 months agoI've already reported this. Store categories is the main reason I created a store in the first place. I'm not getting any sense of urgency from ebay either. We're paying the same price as other stores and we're left at a disadvantage.

·11 months agothank you , I still havent been able to add categories yet to our new store , hopfuly somebody can figure out
thecollectorswebb
OP11 months agoIt has been working for mine since the 23rd of last month. Are you seeing the same error I was seeing?
pandazcollects
·11 months ago@thecollectorswebb I just created a basic store 2 days ago and experiencing the same thing. No matter what I do I get the "its not you its us" generic error when I click the store categories button to add new categories.
thecollectorswebb
OP11 months ago@pandazcollects i feel your pain, hopefully they look into soon
thecollectorswebb
OP11 months agoA whole week of my subscription gone and still cannot create categories for my store.
dhbookds
·11 months agowas afraid of that, but worth a try.......
Only other thing I can think of is to use the ? down in the right hand corner of the page to report a tech problem........you can put the URL of this thread in it.....supposedly goes to the people in charge of that page who might be able to get it fixed.......
thecollectorswebb
OP11 months ago@dhbookds
Another great Idea. I've wrote messages on via the ? mark at the bottom but sending the link is a great suggestion. Thank you 🙂
dhbookds
·11 months ago@thecollectorswebb on that screen shot.........I see this........
try changing to store categories...........
thecollectorswebb
OP11 months agoExcellent suggestion. I have changed that before and published. I get the same screen when going to the Store Categories creation page.
If I add "Featured Categories", And then select "Store Categories" It pops up a warning saying I need to create them. Clicking the link it provides, going to the left menu "Store Categories" or the Store dropdown > Store Categories, all result in the same Status 500 Error page.
thecollectorswebb
OP11 months agoStill wondering, is this a universal issue? Is everyone with a store having the same exact problem?
hardrhymer76
·11 months agoI'm seeing no issues. Windows 10 / Edge. The direct URL is: https://www.ebay.com/sh/str/category
thecollectorswebb
OP11 months agoAwesome, thank you for answering. I know I have seen at least 3 other posts with my issue, in the Selling Tools section. I will try Edge and see what happens.
thecollectorswebb
OP11 months ago@hardrhymer76
Ok so I am seeing the same issue on Microsoft Edge.
I have a "Basic Store" subscription, one higher than the lowest. Does that have something to do with it?
I tried your link, and I tried navigating from my store and from the seller dashboard dropdown.
All bring me to the Status 500 page
hardrhymer76
·11 months agoI doubt it. But I noticed something strange when I tried to view your feedback profile:
And when I try to view your items for sale (non-store view):
But your store link works fine for me.¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So something is up on an account-level for you. Maybe someone else has seen this before and can elaborate.
eburtonlab
·11 months agoBut I noticed something strange when I tried to view your feedback profile
The non-working community links are due to a recent username change; if you notice, the username in the link URL is different than the OP's current username. The community forum no longer imports the most recent profile information from eBay for some reason.
Ordinarily a username change can cause odd behavior, but once the user has signed out of eBay completely and then signed back in (or erased eBay cookies), the change should be fully propagated throughout eBay (though not the community pages, apparently).
hardrhymer76
·11 months agoI navigated there differently and all normal. Good to know, thanks.
thecollectorswebb
OP11 months ago@eburtonlab @hardrhymer76
I wish this would fix it.
Yes I have changed my Username, when I changed to having a store, and made some branding to go with it. IE my new profile pic and the banner.
I have logged out many times now, since clearing all cookies and cache force that. Not to mention I've logged in from browsers i've never logged in with.
Maybe I will try clearing everything again. Logging out of all browsers and devices.
And then logging in again on my original browser.
I think your guess about the new changes not propagating makes total sense. Ill let you know.
thecollectorswebb
OP11 months agoWelp that didnt work. Wonder if there is a way to force a sync of your profile.

OP1 year agoNetwork tab, and the call that is failing
thecollectorswebb
OP1 year agoIs this a universal issue or regional issue? Is this a load balancer issue and only some people are experiencing it? I've seen other posts in the forums stating they are experiencing the same thing.
Just keeping the issue alive, most likely this is a simple fix. Restart your application pools or API for categories

What page or link are you starting from? Perhaps you are using an old bookmarked link?
I see your store page here:

thecollectorswebb
OP1 year ago@eburtonlab
Going to seller hub > Store dropdown then to Store Categories.
The page you CREATE categories on.
Im not talking about looking at my store and not seeing categories.
Picture for reference.
This way doesnt work either.....
Both bring up the status 500 page
Can you create new categories in your store?
eburtonlab
·1 year agoI do not have a store to test.
Did you recently change your username? How long ago?
If you have not signed out of eBay since then, try signing out completely, then signing back in. Sometimes a username change does not fully propagate until after that happens, which can cause all sorts of odd errors.
You did say that you have tried other browsers and cleared your cache, which should have taken care of this issue, unless you are still using an old bookmark, or if eBay needs time to process the name change.
thecollectorswebb
OP1 year ago@eburtonlab
I did try this just now, based on your suggestion. Good idea, thanks for that.
Unfortunately no change, still getting the same "Its not you its us" screen.
I don't use any bookmark to get here, just type in ebay in my search bar so I don't think its that.
Anyways, great suggestions, appreciate it.
Still stuck with the status 500 screen.
I was really looking forward to making some custom sections, for couponing etc

Ok, not really, but I just like posting this.
Overall, just wait a few minutes, few hours, few days. Things here ALWAYS fix themselves.

·1 year agoI'm seeing it...........
Can't get to it thru the community pages, but once I use the workaround to get to the store, categories show up....
thecollectorswebb
OP1 year ago@dhbookds
Im talking about going to my store, then going to store categories so I can create categories.
The Category Creation page is just the status 500 page
dhbookds
·1 year agoSorry, I misunderstood the problem........ I use Ebay categories, so can't test to create categories........
